I'm so sick of attempts at these threads, and their brethren. Anyone else want to suggest their least favorite thread titles and why these debates aren't bloody well doing anything to further the Kingdom, and probably also stand out as major reasons why non-Christians are repelled by Christians, and why certain members of the fold can't seem to f'ing shut up about them nonetheless?

Rants accepted.

Still. At least I know what to say now to get them to leave.

For those who care, Dan Savage held a contest in his sex advice column Savage Love for this specific practice, and the term which won was "pegging."

My own favourite Please Stop The Insanity Now thread, which I think covers most of the applications here, would be:

Why People Who Disagree With Me Are Not Only Incorrect, But Immoral

I.e., no one can actually just be wrong, they have to be willfully wrong. They can't just be honestly in error. Very little pisses me off (and brings in my own defend-the-underdog reactions) more than accusations of intellectual dishonesty -- not just against me but in general. And not if someone asks, "Do you really mean that? I can't imagine someone sincerely holding that position?" which is different -- I mean passive-aggressive, snidely implied accusations of intellectual dishonesty. [Mad]

Sorry - 'twas just a poor effort on my part to encourage and affirm you in your pedantry (...or pendantry if jewellery takes your fancy).

I have found research that proves my point. Oh yes I have. I have! I bloody well have! And I am not going to be polite about this because I am right and you are in denial about it. And you can pick holes in the methodology and the sources all you want. Because I am right. Why? Because I say so ...

Clearly, Mr. Juice was using "them Beatles" as a comic construction. In America, to illustrate stupidity of a made up character, we use back-woods slang. He was adopting the grammatical flavor of someone, quite likely called Cletus, to further show the stupidity of what was being said.

Can we please return to the game now?
I will add:

It doesn't matter what the topic of this thread is, becuase as soon as one grammatical error is made, the entire thread will become a pedantic dick contest.

Thank you, Wanderer! My staunch defender! And you're right as well, which makes you doubly lovely.

All the best,

Rachel.

Oh, and here's a "mea culpa"--

I'm bored with the threads in Heaven, I'm too lazy to compose an answer for anything in Purgatory, so I'm gonna start a gratuitous nose-pulling thread in Hell that's doomed to sink after two days.

I don't know what the heck a "mea culpa" is. [Wink]

But that sounds like something I've done, too. Except mine took longer to sink. [Two face]

that sounds like something I've done...

That's what a 'mea culpa' is. "my fault" literally.

Ah Rachel - we don't see enough of you on board these days. Good to hear from you again. [Love]

How about:
My political convictions are divinely inspired and anyone who disagrees with me is on a Satanically-inspired mission to destroy Western Civilization.?

I know Kelly. It was a funny, I guess. My self-satire goes flat sometimes. [Wink] Speaking of which...

But they are, wanderer, they are!

Droll humour is always funny, no matter how many time we re-use the same pathetic gag.

I'd like to say something grotesquely and outrageously offensive and, when challenged, claim that this is evidence that the rest of you have no sense of humour.

Sorry, Punky Markster. ( [Killing me] ) That must have come off as incredibly pompous.

I guess I was subconsciously jealous of your thread lasting longer.

Board rules and why they don't apply to me ...

And why any attempt to apply them to my good self is evidence of a) your repression of my right to free speech and b) proof that you are a bunch of <insert gratious insult here>

I believe in the reliability of Scripture, unless you quote something that kills my point.

(btw, i should add that my above post is not only a reaction to whats going on on the "calling god to hell" thread, but also something on another board i post on. can't people get it through their heads that its a bad idea to drop into a brand new community and start flaming long-established, well liked posters?)

haha this thread is cracking me up! Some others I've noticed are:

'The Bible is true because it says it is'

(from an atheist:)'My views do not need to be justified but yours do', or, 'atheism is not a theological position' (??????)

'What should the Christian approach be to: underfloor heating/bespoke tailoring/archery/ferret keeping etc'

'You guys just pick and choose bits of scripture that suit you' (er...and you don't?)

'The first Christians are the only authentic ones' (erm...they were actually Jews werent' they?)

Hello, In the two days that I have been here I have psychoanalyzed all of you through your posts and have come to the conclusion that you are vicious and mean! [pout]

hehe glad you liked my comment Kelly Alves, although I must admit the 'underfloor heating' bit was nicked from one of Alan Bennett's monologues.

But when I hear people say things like that it just reminds me of the 'HOW shall we f8*k off O Lord?' scene from 'Life of Brian'! [Eek!]

(checking my post)

Yep, I did use the word Pinata. Sorry about lack of tilde, Pyx_e, but how the hell did you get Peanut out of that?
