The Boston Globe Spotlight team -- the same group that brought the clergy sex abuse scandal to the forefront about 15 years ago -- started a new series today:
Father, my Father: Children of Catholic priests live with secrets and sorrow .
If you can't get through the paywall, CBS has a summary.
I'd expected to see something about this here during the (US) day today.
I don't even know what to say.

If it is true, my heart breaks.
Children by Catholic priests is hardly new, I'm sure I read about it in history, but a good look into the shunned and their lives will be horrifying I suspect. How could those who spread the message of Ultimate Love withhold it so?
Thank you does not seem the right term in acknowledging you alerted me to it.

There are a large number of reasons why I think imposing compulsory celibacy on one's denomination's clergy is a foolish policy and a thoroughly bad thing. This is only one of them, though a significant one.
Furthermore, reading between the lines of those two articles, had such a policy not existed, some of those priests would almost certainly have married, and been both good husbands and fathers and excellent priests at the same time, in stead of fouling up their own and others' lives to fulfil a totally unnecessary and impractical demand.
It's interesting, and I think significant, that as far as I know, not only does no other ecclesial community impose this regulation but it is not even laid upon eastern rite Catholics.

Plus, as I'm sure has been mentioned in Dead Horses a hundred times, the RCC is willing to overlook the requirement when it comes to enticing Anglican clerics to swim the Tiber.
