Over on this side of the pond doomsday-sayers had been predicting the end of the world by Septenber 23.
Did you guys survive?
Does this mean I have to prepare my Sunday School lesson?

I think "survived" is about the best word for it. As my husband said upon checking the news this morning; "Great, another three years of being governed by a potato in a suit."

Count yourself lucky. Quite a lot of your shipmates have the misfortune to be governed by Mrs May or Donald Trump.

I do not agree with David Meade but for the sake of accuracy and to be fait to him, this needs to be recognised:
He said, quote: Before we proceed, let’s summarize some important points: Nothing is expected to happen in September. It is possible at the end of October we may be about to enter into the seven-year Tribulation period, to be followed by a Millennium of peace. When Wormwood (Revelation 8) is on close approach to Earth sometime during the Tribulation, you’ll have solar flares and a possible loss of the electrical grid for weeks, maybe longer. However, that’s the main risk I see right now because, as I’ve stated in my book, right after the initial solar flare risk I see the Rapture of the true Church. Pretty cool–we’re all gone.
It's on THIS WEBSITE
Which has other predictions that go with a pinch of salt.

Oh, I do know that it could be much worse. On the other hand, the potato did actually utter the phrase 'strong and stable' yesterday, when discussing the government he expected to form (in coalition with a known maverick).

My birthday celebration on 23rd September at just right place with just the right people went OK and two days later we are all still here, including at least four who expect to be raptured.

When four guests genuinely expect rapture, it's pretty serious. The subject of "men with fingers on the nuclear button" was mentioned.

Well, the wars, and rumours of wars, that Our Lord mentioned are indeed with us, but then aren't they always?
Perhaps it's also the frequency of floods, storms, earthquakes, famines etc. that's breeding this proliferation of End Times stuff. Yes, I know they've not exactly been absent in the past either, but...
Of course, the ubiquitous Internet makes it easy to disseminate extremist views and prophecies across the world, which wasn't the case a generation or so ago.

Who is she? He's the guy that initiated the 23rd September nonsense.
But he did not say the world would end on that day - that's media spin.

YES, GG, you've WON! In this treasure chest are 100 tickets, each of which bestows 5 min. of the worst of your tribulations on the recipient. (Only one ticket to a recipient, so choose carefully. Perhaps someone who caused a tribulation; or did the Job's friends thing, and blamed you; or anyone who needs a serious wake-up call.)
AND, in the very bottom of the treasure chest, you'll find a golden ticket, good for unlimited visits to Willy Wonka's chocolate factory.
AND an all-expense-paid holiday to a tropical resort, out of the way of any and all disasters, etc.
Have fun!

Regarding men with fingers on nuclear buttons, I was once stationed in the Strategic Air Command. I remember hearing a story once when NORAD mistakingly sent out "We are under attack" warning. All of the sudden, American airmen in bunkers were having to go through their launch sequence procedures for real (or so they thought). The whole process normally takes about 15 minutes until two keys are turned to launch the rockets. (It is not a button, btw) Even though these procedures are practiced time and time again, in this instance, the airmen were literally getting sick because they thought it was for real. Fortunately, the stand down came about ten minutes into the procedure.
There is a similar incident that happened on the Russian side. One of their satellites detected a launch of one of our rockets over the Dakotas--where many of our armed rockets were kept. The Russians also started their launch sequences, but there was one Colonel, I believe, that felt the warning was a false alarm. He did not see any other launches on the American side which would have happened. He stopped their countdown when he realized it was a mistake. Turns out the satellite probably picked up a bright reflection off a metal shed in the Dakotas
Two instances of how close we actually came to nuclear war. Two reasons why the SALT I treaty was signed.

Lt. Col. Stanislav Petrov. He didn't stop the countdown so much as he didn't transmit the (erroneous) information that the US had launched.
He died in May this year.
