Joke submitted by fLaMePr0oF, with variations by John Lewis and Lou Shwing:
Three ministers were at a function: one Pentecostal, one Anglican and one Methodist.
Drinks were served and there was a choice between wine or grape juice. The Anglican and the Methodist both took a glasses of wine, but the Pentecostal said, "I'd rather commit adultery than pollute myself with alcohol!"
The Methodist quickly placed his wine back on the tray. "I didn't realise there was a third choice," he said.

Good for a chuckle; though in my part of the USA, most Methodists would still have stuck with the wine.

Yes, got a good chuckle from me to, though I didn't pay attention to the denominations and don't culturally appreciate the significance of the methodist being the tosspot. It would prolly work equally well as: '3 Christians were at Coffee Hour after church'.
Actually, I'm surprised it wasn't the Anglican, since Anglicans are well known for their hedonism (relatively) among the denominations... And the celebration of food and alcohol at clergy retreats is legendary.

I saw the title and I thought it was going to be about Children's Church or a parish with a high concentration of AA members. Then I recognize it as one my wife had read to me over the telephone.
I voted with the majority. I was surprised at the methodists also. I'd always go with the wine. There's a saying 'Wherever you find four Anglicans, there's bound to be a fifth....'

Pentecostals aren't meant to drink? My bad.

Ooh, Anglicans known for their 'hedonism'?
There must be more to those Holy Land Walking Tours than I realised... Perhaps it's kind of a Club 80-30.

My parents used to prepare the Holy Communion for our Methodist church - all the none-alcoholic wine you could drink ...
SO my experience of Methodism is being abstinent. Anglicans on the other hand seem to favour "make your own lethal wine" brand ... mind you wasnt Jesus himself responcible for brewing the odd batch of wine in his time?

The different denominational stereotypes don't work for me. The implication is that Pentecostals are known for teetotalism and Methodists for adultery. I tend to think of the Methodists as being traditionally teetotal but I don't think of any denomination as particularly sexually licentious. As Coot says, just 3 random churchgoers at Coffee Hour would work just as well. Does it even have to have a Christian/religious context? I suppose so, to give a context for the teetotalism and make the option of adultery more incongruous.
