What an awful lot of people there are who give Christianity a bad name.

You know, as tempting as it is to vilify such people, most are not actually awful. Their views are, but they are not. Not an excuse, mind, just some perspective.

Telling people to defy the highest court in the land is never a great look for a judge.

He was wrong on at least 2 counts: the persistent stance in favour of limiting marriage to those of opposite sex; and his power to give such a direction to county clerks.

A third count was his claim that the US Supreme Court didn't have jurisdiction over "States Rights". That proposition was rejected rather firmly a hundred and fifty years ago.

This is not his first rodeo, either. He was previously removed entirely from the State Supreme Court for ignoring orders to remove a Ten Commandments monument from courthouse property. Inexplicably, he was then re-elected to the court next time around. This time, however, it looks to be a permanent bar from return.

He's not, however, barred from running for governor, which is apparently what he has his sights set on.
And sadly, I don't think it's all that inexplicable.
