Following Simon's debut in the catwalk, and in my role as PR for the Christian Resources Exhibition, the Daily Telegraph picture desk asked me to walk the aisles of the show on Friday and find 'an attractive woman priest' to model some new clerical shirts on sale at the show.

It took me two and and a half hours ('Excuse me, are you ordained?' isn't the most engaging chat-up line) but I think Emma is simply stunning.

You don't expect to see a face looking at you from somebody's back.

Not just creepy: I find Jackie Binns's work, though beautifully worked and full of exquisite detail, is just unsuited to liturgical vestments. They should have an impact from a distance, and usually are more effective because of full shapes and graceful lines rather than stiff and unyielding fabrics with intricate designs that can only be appreciated from close up.

It shows a medieval bishop on the left holding Old St Paul's, and a Restoration bishop on the right holding Wren's post-fire St Paul's.

Maybe they are meant to represent catholic and protestant Christianity and the icon of Christ in the centre recall Orthodox Christianity, as the true via media.

Unless the creases and folds can be kept out of the picture, I'm not sure any of the three gentlemen in that montage escape the experience with dignity! It's like there's been a plague of Bell's Palsy in the vestment cupboard.

Not lack of taste at all, anselmina, just good sense. Of course a cope is going to ruche when worn. In which case a large design will be unintelligible.

If you want a flat surface to embroider, then back to a baroque fiddleback chasuble.

The Jubilee cope. But that works artistically because the spires form a pattern. It's still a bit too much like a bill board to my mind, but at least it isn't the iconographical equivalent of "The End is Nigh" in bold print.

I think that both of the copes would work better as Table paraments then as vestiments on a person. You wouldn't be able to make out the design when the person moved. I don't think tha either is ugly in the abstract, but I can't see a person wearing either one. I say stick to the abstract or symbolical for vestiments.
