Not fair. Why should clergy have all the best frocks?

Hey! This is all about cutting edge stuff here. Brown is the new "pop of color" in accessories. [Cool]

As Anna Wintour might say, if you're going to teeter around on tiptoes with outstretched arms, a great golden distraction of a chasuble is the thing to wear.

As Mugatu didn't quite say, "It's that damn Simon. He's so hot right now!"

Does he get to keep them? (The tat,not the shoes). [Cool]

Tat-encrusted Celebrant: Peace be with you.
Awestruck People: Ay, ay, Cap'n.

Re Ancient Mariner: He's a good caption writer, isn't he? Latest Paris(h) fashions, indeed.

Definitely a pic for the Church Time's Caption Comp. [Smile] I'll get practising.

Is he flood lit at night?

I was just sitting here thinking about how I've gained so much weight, I have nothing to wear to church tomorrow. That outfit would be perfect!

That cope on Jacqui Binn's site is something else. Amazing.

Following Simon's debut in the catwalk, and in my role as PR for the Christian Resources Exhibition, the Daily Telegraph picture desk asked me to walk the aisles of the show on Friday and find 'an attractive woman priest' to model some new clerical shirts on sale at the show.

It took me two and and a half hours ('Excuse me, are you ordained?' isn't the most engaging chat-up line) but I think Emma is simply stunning.

[Cool]

.. did she tell you which church she attends/serves? Just asking, you understand.

For the record, Emma is a youth worker with Matrix Trust and is studying at Ridley Hall, Cambridge for a theology degree at their Centre for Youth Ministry. 'All things...' (as it were).

Well it is creepy in the extreme to anyone with any taste!

You don't expect to see a face looking at you from somebody's back.

Not just creepy: I find Jackie Binns's work, though beautifully worked and full of exquisite detail, is just unsuited to liturgical vestments. They should have an impact from a distance, and usually are more effective because of full shapes and graceful lines rather than stiff and unyielding fabrics with intricate designs that can only be appreciated from close up.

Might be better as an Altar cloth? [Big Grin]

As for it's meaning: Is the bloke on the right representing low church Anglicanism and the one on the left high church?

It shows a medieval bishop on the left holding Old St Paul's, and a Restoration bishop on the right holding Wren's post-fire St Paul's.

Maybe they are meant to represent catholic and protestant Christianity and the icon of Christ in the centre recall Orthodox Christianity, as the true via media.

Unless the creases and folds can be kept out of the picture, I'm not sure any of the three gentlemen in that montage escape the experience with dignity! It's like there's been a plague of Bell's Palsy in the vestment cupboard.

But that is just an opinion. And I don't pretend to have any taste at all [Big Grin] !

Not lack of taste at all, anselmina, just good sense. Of course a cope is going to ruche when worn. In which case a large design will be unintelligible.

If you want a flat surface to embroider, then back to a baroque fiddleback chasuble.

She is really pretty. [Big Grin] She puts out kindly vibes, as well.

Oh, Simon, you wear it well, as well. [Smile] Good point about the folded face, though.

Beryl Dean's version works much better.

The Jubilee cope. But that works artistically because the spires form a pattern. It's still a bit too much like a bill board to my mind, but at least it isn't the iconographical equivalent of "The End is Nigh" in bold print.

I think that both of the copes would work better as Table paraments then as vestiments on a person. You wouldn't be able to make out the design when the person moved. I don't think tha either is ugly in the abstract, but I can't see a person wearing either one. I say stick to the abstract or symbolical for vestiments.
