Anyone know what's happened to Tortuf?
(ISTR there was a thread devoted to enquiries after absent Shipmates, but couldn't find it.)

How extraordinary. For no reason I can imagine, Tortuf popped into my head this morning, and I felt an impulse to enquire after him.
Synchronicity, I guess.

I have not been on the Ship lately. I needed a rest from the Ship and the Ship needed a rest from me.
Thank you for thinking about me. That was unexpected and kind.

Now this is going to be extra weird, but I've been thinking exactly the same as Yorick in the last couple of weeks. Even wondering where this wondering where that shipmate thread is.
Nice to see you back Tortuf.

Awww, ya'll are so kind to think of me! I always think of Molly this time of year, and thus the Ship and, of course, having T-Day at JediJudy's house brings you all to mind.
I'm afraid Jedi J was six(teen) sheets to the wind by the time she slurred the comment about the Ship so I wasn't sure if she was making it up or not.
Perhaps that comment needs some context . . .
You see, she made the comment about 35 minutes into a rambling and increasingly agitated . . . prayer . . . I guess we'll call it. We sat down for dinner 108 minutes later, after she had invoked the Wrath of God on a surprisingly disparate group of people ("who would benefit from a dose of CONDITONAL love", as she advised the Almighty at one point) about whose sins and failings she was quite explicit. As some of those named were actually in the room, it was a little awkward.
Remarking to those nearest her that she "was bored to death with you people" she shoved a bowl of gravy out of her way (and into the lap of her daughter, poor girl, to whom Judy remarked, rather snidely, I thought, "a little gravy won't make THAT dress any uglier)to make room for her laptop. I was at the kiddy table across the room at the time (my punishment for arriving at 12:33 instead of 12:30. I don't even know why she called it the kiddy table, since there were no children. It was really just me on a bean bag chair balancing a napkin of giblets on my knee) and she summoned me to her side to see the thread. Then, in a drunken abuse of power, she deleted the profiles of several Shipmates and changed the passwords of several others, cackling about what a rush it is to be "the Heavenly Host".
I didn't catch the thread name because Judy slammed the 'puter shut and staggered to where her son-in-law was leading his weeping wife to their car to get a change of clothes (apparently, that's where they'd been sleeping during their visit, because Judy's cats, "might want to use the other bed"). She wanted to explain to him how much more suitable a match someone else would have been. She didn't seem to have anyone particular in mind, just "someone else".
I, along with several other guests, seized the opportunity afforded by the emasculation of her son-in-law to make our escape on the pretext of "going to get more Jack. You only have a bottle and a half left." I'm not sure if she really thought it needed a complement of 7 people to refurbish her supply, or was just relieved at the prospect of some quiet. Most of those leaving with me had been sobbing not so quietly for a good while at that point. Still, she didn't throw anything or cuss at us (though I got a blistering voicemail several hours later, when she apparently realized we weren't coming back with more whiskey).
All's well, though. It turned into one of her blackouts, so we've assured her it was a Norman Rockwell Thanksgiving.
You know, so she won't hurt us.
