I have recently moved up to York (uk) and wondered if there are any local shipmates who would be up for a meet?
Days and dates flexible - anyone interested?

I will try and make it, thesis willing but I cannot organise. Avoid third Sunday's in the month if possible and the first weekend in July please.

Will keep a look out to see if any date may be possible.

AnnieP and I and the 3 boys would also be around if the dates match.

Yay - there's another York shippie! Will definately be up for this.
Posted by sophs (# 2296) on

I'd probably be up for this depending on times
Posted by guinness girl (# 4391) on
:
We may be up for it if it's during the day, date dependent.

Sorry it took so long to get back to this - RL happened at me in a big way!
Suggestions for dates :
Sunday 10th June
Saturday 23rd June
Sunday 24th June
Saturday 7th July
Sunday 8th July
Do any of these work for people?
I'm not really sure where to meet, does anyone have any suggestions (otherwise I will have a think and post some suggestions later).

Hmm
Start being realistic Jengie!
10th Help its next Saturday otherwise a possibility
23th not really, thesis has booked the day for writing up weeks write
24th swapped sound system from 17th no longer able to do
7th & 8th at my parents.
Sorry

Would be interested, particularly as it would be my last northern meet before moving south and various of those dates would work.
Posted by Balaam (# 4543) on
:
Looking at those dates:
Sunday 10th June - I'm doing the intercessions at church, could make mid-afternoon onwards. Plus its too short notice for cheep train fares.
Saturday 23rd June - Can do, but will need to get back to set up PA for church next day.
Sunday 24th June - Our church is offering free refreshments to people watching the Olympic torch go past - Can't make it (I blame Seb Coe).
Any other time looks OK at the moment. Especially in July. Money is tight at the moment, we could do with enough notice for cheep train fares.
Posted by Tractor Girl (# 8863) on
:
Now moving south sooner than anticipated and so unlikely to be about.
Posted by Mrs Shrew (# 8635) on
:
Given the train tickets situation and Jengie's being busy, I am thinking that it might be better to delay this until after the summer.
I'm going to start by suggesting Sunday 9th or 23rd September in the afternoon.
Any votes?
Sorry to hear you won't be able to join us, Tractor Girl - good luck with your move!
Posted by Jengie Jon (# 273) on

9th should be possible,
23rd I should be heading towards Scotland.
Jengie
Posted by Earwig (# 12057) on
:
I can do either of these dates.

It's been a good long while since I've seen a lot of you. I may try and make it to this if it happens in September...
Posted by Mrs Shrew (# 8635) on
:
So we have the 9th of September then.
Is there a kind host who can change the thread title to reflect that please?
It would be lovely to see lots of people - hopefully with this much notice it will work!
Posted by Tom Day (# 3630) on
:
The 9th sounds ok for us as well.
Posted by Balaam (# 4543) on
:
Enjoy yourselves, LRP and I will be relaxing in the heat of the Costa del Fortune on that date.

Okay, I've done that.
[Opinions on my kindness vary.]

...unless it's the first week or so of September, when I'll be in Cuba. Darn.

Boo! It would have been very cool to meet you, but Cuba - I'm jealous.

Provisional yes from us too

Sorry to jump onto a thread where I really have no place to be (I don't live in York!) but my choir are singing the services at York Minster on 8 and 9 September, and you'd be very welcome to come.
If anyone has a genuine interest I can let you know what the music is, otherwise I'll just slink off quietly!

Not living in York, but about an hour away. Realising been rather quiet around the ship lately, but hoping to make it on the 9th
Posted by East Price Road (# 13846) on

Will keep an eye on this - I should be able to make it.
Thanks for the idea Mrs Shrew!
Posted by Mrs Shrew (# 8635) on

-bump-
I am still up for this - are other people?
I'm starting having a think about venue, ideas welcome!
Posted by Earwig (# 12057) on
:
Deffo still up for this!
Wheelie Racer - it would be great to see you again if you can make it!
Posted by Jengie Jon (# 273) on
:
Should make it. Still not got myself double booked.

I was in York recently, just prior to the Olympics. What a beautiful town it is!
Sorry I didn't get to meet you all. Have fun at your meet.
Posted by Mrs Shrew (# 8635) on
:
Sorry not to have met you, Dark Knight. Pleased you liked the city though
I guess we ought to make firm arrangements at this point.
Would about 1pm onwards suit? I figure that allows maximum coming /going.
Location wise- do we need to be child friendly? If not, my first suggestion is the York Tap, a new(ish) pub based at the railway station, so good for transport. It is fairly spacious and has a good range of real ales.
Please go ahead if you have other suggestions, I am a bit unsure how to organise these things!
Posted by East Price Road (# 13846) on
:
Mrs Shrew, I think that we might need to be at a child-friendly location, but others will I'm sure be confirming this soon (or not). I don't know York that well, so will trust your judgement regarding choice of meeting-place!
I should be able to make it by 2pm, and am looking forward to the afternoon.
Posted by Mrs Shrew (# 8635) on
:
Thanks for letting me know, East Prince Road.
With that in mind (also I am informed that the Tap gets very busy), I suggest the following Alternative And (Hopefully)Final Plan:
This Sunday, 9 September, from about 12.30pm at the Black Swan, 23 Peasholme Green, YO1 7PR
Their website is here: http://www.blackswanyork.com/
They do food, which looks nice. I shall be sampling this!
I am told it is quite big inside - I will try to get a big table in a good corner.
For ease of identifying - I will be the lady with red hair, knitting. I shall bring Snuggle Bear (a small teddy in a jumper that says "S.B." on it).
Looking forward to meeting you!
Posted by East Price Road (# 13846) on
:
It all looks and sounds fine to me, Mrs Shrew. I hope it suits the others. I'll probably arrive between 1 and 1.30.
Posted by Earwig (# 12057) on
:
Huzzah! I shall be there too, from 12.30.
Wheelie Racer - I just checked - all the downstairs rooms are fully wheelchair accessable in case you're able to come (fingers crossed!).
Posted by Mrs Shrew (# 8635) on
:
I had also checked that, but forgot to put it in my post. *blushes in shame*
Posted by Jengie Jon (# 273) on

Trains permitting should be there about 12:30 (if trains run to schedule). I am really glad it is on Sunday it just fits into my weekend so much better.

Posted by East Price Road (# 13846) on

I've altered my plans, and now I should also be able to turn up by 12.30.
Posted by Jengie Jon (# 273) on
:
Sorry going to have to send apologies, thesis writing is not going as smoothly as I hoped this weekend and I am going to need tomorrow to work on it.

I am realising that the reason I am cancelling is I have a summer cold, this was causing lack of concentration and progress even before I was acknowledging I had one. Hence post above. It is now getting treated.

We are here and safely ensconced in the garden, as the weather is lovely. Looking forward to seeing whoever joins us.

Thanks Mrs Shrew for arranging our shipmeet. I spent a very enjoyable afternoon: company, location, and food all excellent. I'm already looking forward to the next time!
