(Apologies if this doesn't belong in Heaven - please move if appropriate!)

This isn't a thread for the "big" things Shippies have done for the first time - the life-changing, huge amounts of effort, massive achievements like climbing Everest, sailing solo around the world (OK, those are exaggerations).

This is a thread to celebrate the small things we've done for the first time; the things that probably everybody else has done before, but which are a first for us. Surely they're worth celebrating in their own, small way?!

So here's a starter: today I've changed a fluorescent tube light for the first time.

Not very exciting, but this year I used an airbrush (to paint something) for the first time in my life. And it wasn't a complete disaster.

I went to the opera for the first time ever last year. It was for the "Marriage of Figaro". I sat there spellbound at the beauty of it all.

I kissed a duck for the first time this year, or rather I was holding a duck when it planted a smacker straight on the lips/beak.

I finally learned how to do a home oil change when I changed the engine oil in my lawn mower. I probably won't start changing the oil in my car at home, but I was very proud of myself for doing that on my own.

Contracted Guillain-Barre Syndrome. Felt odd, fell over a couple of times, got better.
