Well, almost!
Tomorrow, the great Haggis Hunt begins. This is your chance to spot both common and golden haggis as they migrate.
This year, we have some new places to observe. I noticed that the Times Square camera is not represented. Could the NY population have left the area?
The hunt ends at 3pm on Burns’ Night, January 25. Also, the Haggis are known to get quite festive around Christmastime. Big Sekrit!!! Santa sometimes can be seen during the haggis migration!!
There are also prizes for folks who report the most haggis sightings. Some folks will get a bottle of whisky!!
So, please report your findings on this thread. Good luck! May you see many haggises...um haggi...
...may you see more than one haggis.

Haggii?
Or is Haggis the plural of the singular Haggium?

If there are two or three in the same location I think you just get the one point. If there are several at the same time in different locations (so on different webcams) you have to be quick and click on each cam in turn to report them.
This year is going to be my year to win something, I just know it. Never mind that I say that every year, this year is going to be different.

Posted by Boogie (# 13538) on
:
I wonder if Haggises turn white in the snow?
Posted by North East Quine (# 13049) on

I'm finding it interesting how much more daylight Linlithgow is getting, compared to Inverurie. It's 8.50am here and still not full daylight. Even Stonehaven, only 30 miles south is noticeably lighter. And I can confirm (glances out of window) that the Inverurie webcam is accurately relaying the tone of the sky.
Posted by Firenze (# 619) on
:
I'm seeing the thumbnail of Loch Ness, but it doesn't load in the main window - anyone else having that problem?
Posted by North East Quine (# 13049) on

Yes, I've had that happen a few times; I think it's being affected by Nessie's "invisibility" forcefield. Every time Nessie comes out to graze, she freezes the thumbnail and stops the webcam from working.

One of the marvellous Haggis properties, the short term disappearance of snow. However I am slightly worried the ability to night into day seems to be decreasing they now only seem to manage dusk! The alternative property of turning the camera to infra-red when it wasn't also seems to have disappeared.

I did see a haggis in Oxford Street today, and I wonder if anyone in real life, not like us, saw such one what they would feel?
And it did seem as if there were haggii all over the place they photo. At Loch Lomond when we've camped there quite often, we've never seen any haggis.

It was a very nice calendar, but one suspects they were simply getting rid of surplus stock.
However, I have not forgotten my promise to Jedijudy, that if they ever send me another one, I am sending it on to her. Maybe this year, Judy ...

And now it's showing a roof and the side of a building. The hill in the background, with the sort of notch in the treeline at the summit, is Craig Phadraig; the place at which Christianity reached Inverness. King Brude had his fort there. Saint Columba went to the fort and asked to speak to the king, but was refused admission. So Columba commanded the gates to open in the name of Jesus, the gates swung open: instant conversion of King Brude!
The remains of a vitrified fort still exist.

And the one I see shows it's been at Selfridges and crossed the road on there!

There is an enormous one at Linlithgow Cross at the moment. Heaven is far too delicate a venue to describe what it seems to be intent on doing to a parked car, but .....

That golden one on the roof at Inverness came back and I got it this time.

Jings! and Help ma Boab!
Can haggis swim? It's only twenty miles from Cairnryan to Larne, and I'm sure there have been reportings of haggis on the Antrim Plateau and among the glens.

Golden one at Inverurie sneaking across the road. They'll be getting jittery as Burns' Night approaches.

One lurking at Loch Ness and another creeping along in front of Edinbugh Castle.

And I twice say a little yellow one by Loch Ness; it's the first time I've seen that there, and also having seen bigger yellow ones, I was surprised.
Posted by daisymay (# 1480) on

And there was a huge yellow one high up in Edinburgh today!
And London seems to have removed their Christmas things they have all over the street.

Big gold Haggis at Loch Lomond, sheep at Loch Ness. It looks like a beautiful day in Scotland.

Gold one at Kilmarnock Cross being given a wide berth by the folks around.

There's one at Eilean Donan castle.

Just seen one popping up in Oxford Street for some early morning shopping. Looks like there's a Saturday market being set up in Inverurie.

The Haggis appears to have stolen the market in Inverurie!

No haggis anywhere - but interesting weather, different in each of the ten places.

They just borrowed it but it's being packed up now anyway.

I've seen several golden ones out and about this morning.
It is strange seeing such differing conditions in the various haggis habitats! They must be very adaptable.

There was a very big one, (not gold) in Edinburgh - bigger than the cars! And as usual one a bit smaller elsewhere.
I meant to say in Eillen Donan castle.

There is one about to walk off the roof of the office block between the camera and the castle at Inverness. Don't jump! Don't jump. Does anyone have the number for the SSPCA?
Posted by Mamacita (# 3659) on

OMG, there were just five of them. Edinburgh castle, Oxford Street, Stonehaven Harbour, Eilean Donan, and I can't remember the fifth one (I'm using the mobile and can't have multiple windows open).

Farmer's market, second Saturday of each month. I can recommend the sausages from The Store stall, everything, absolutely everything, from the Ola stall, and the sunflower and pumpkin seed bread and chocolate brownies from the Crannach stall.
There's also a stall selling dog biscuits, which look remarkably fine, but not having a dog I haven't had an opportunity to try them.

And the only one I've seen now was on Eilean Donan, and it was the big yellow one, walking away from the Castle.

Just seen a little brown one at Eilean Donan, all on its own!

Those cars at Edinburgh Castle are never going to be the same again. They may also need counselling.

This is one at Loch Lomond at the moment. It is outside the visitor centre, just heading off to the cafe (judging by the tables outside, anyway).

Hmmm. I've a feeling that sleeping haggis at Eilean Donan Castle might actually be a rock.

Haggis at Kilmarnock. And the sky and the water at Stonehaven harbour looks like a VanGogh painting.

Not quite sure what is going on but the lighting at Loch Ness gives an impression of the burning bush at present.

It's still there. Kind of pretty. Meanwhile, haggii at Loch Lomond and Inverurie.
And only 9 days left.

Oooh! My first visit and I saw one. I was so surprised I've forgotten where it was!
And you can't see anything at Stonehaven Harbour. I'm glad I'm not there!

Beautiful at Eilean Donan as usual

Haggis in the middle of Oxford Street. And elsewhere, lots of snow! (More than we have in Chicago.)

How am I going to check how much snow there is in different parts of Scotland, once the Haggis cam is gone. (Might help me to get other things done thought!)

How about this collection of webcams, I think it should tell you whether there is snow or not.

Nice pictures, and many of them are connected to the Haggis Hunt!

A nocturnal golden one along the shoreline at Loch Ness. It must be a young one, judging by the small size, with the trees to give perspective. (What is the right word for a young haggis? Cub; calf; tiddler?)

Loads of them all over the place earlier.
Now nothing

There's something unusual in the Loch Ness cam at the moment. The lighting isn't good, and it was only when I took a copy of the cam shot and enlarged it that it was clear that it was a haggis. I thought it might be be Nessie!

Snow coming down hard in Inverurie tonight. Haggis at Eilean Donan.

Haggis at Kilmarnock Cross, heading straight for Robbie Burns' statue.

Just seen one at Loch Ness and I got two earlier today. Considering it's Burns' Night tonight they seem remarkably confident. This time last year they were heading for the hills. Have they got a cunning plan?

There's a partially dismembered haggis in my fridge at the moment. Do you think that counts?
Posted by Sioni Sais (# 5713) on
:
Yes kingsfold, without any doubt.
I bagged one on Tuesday but it will disappear tonight with its partners in crime, Neeps and Tatties.
There will be no bagpipes but I'll be toasting my Dad in Scotch; Burns' Night was the one occasion he appeared to remember he was born in Embra.

No haggi at the moment but I do have a question after hunting for these past weeks... do the buses on Oxford Street always come in sets of 3?
Posted by Boogie (# 13538) on

Well, it's nearly Burns' night and I still haven't won that bottle of scotch!
I can't quite believe this as I must have found 1000 haggises by now.
Humph!

Congratulations, everyone! You were outstanding in your sightings of the elusive Haggis!
As the season has ended, I think this thread can go to bed.
Thank you for your participation. We honor those who actually won prizes! ...And good luck when hunting season opens again!
