My original Ship name and avatar was Brains, from Thunderbirds, so it's sad to note the passing of Gerry Anderson, the creator of Thunderbirds, as reported here.
He was also responsible for Captain Scarlet, Space: 1999 and UFO.
Thunderbirds are go! FAB!
The new DVDs from Christmas, including 8 series of Red Dwarf, will have to wait while we dust off a few episodes of Thunderbirds for viewing tonight.

Ground breaking television, I was an avid watcher of Fireball XL5 and repeats of Four Feather Falls and Supercar, much of my childhood play was trying to recreate Fireball XL5 in a sort of square way, out of Lego®.
Then Stingray came along.
The moral values I hold as an adult have got a lot to do with watching Anderson shows.

I was watching an episode of Thunderbirds the day before I heard the news. Looking at it as an adult, I could see the appalling sexism (the disaster was caused by a woman driver, and they all had a good chuckle about it at the end of the episode), and the way super hi-tech modern buildings were thrown up without anyone testing the wiring or sprinkler systems (or there wouldn't have been a fire for International Rescue to sort out).
But I still got a huge grin on my face watching the Thunderbirds launch, and the Mole tunnel into the ground.

I loved Thunderbirds when they first came out, and they have worn very well. But Anderson created so many other wonderful shows - including The Secret Service. He will be missed.

It was great growing up with Thunderbirds on television every Friday. I have got all of the episodes on a DVD box set I picked up in a sale a couple of years ago.
GA was a great man with great futuristic ideas but Cliff Richard Jnr in Thunderbirds are Go was probably the funniest and most ironic. Here it is on You Tube
