I thought I knew roughly what this thread was going to be about, and then I read the OP, and now I have no idea.

I've no idea about the OP either, but regarding describing God succinctly, I'm told that he is bigger than a submarine.

Posted by Chorister (# 473) on :

I think the OP is a great description of God - with a grave face but twitching lips.

I must admit that, rather than read the Bible these days, I follow God (@TheTweetOfGod) on Twitter. Whoever helps him write his account makes me smile as he 'gets' God rather well....

Higher than a skyscraper, too.

If we build a taller skyscraper, do you think god will get bigger?

I've also heard it suggested that we make god in our own image, so I imagine he must be incredibly good-looking.

I almost feel the need to do the accompanying actions.

God is like unto a Giant Mirror Ball, and each tiny facet reflects an individual soul.

I Googled it ..

The top answer was "God is not a Christian"

That's another million years in purgatory for you.

He Is.

Given that Jesus said 'I am', that sounds like the beginning of a Grammar lesson. Or the index of a set of worship songs:

I am the bread of life.
You are worthy.
He is Lord.

God is very fat?

Posted by Pigwidgeon (# 10192) on :

God is neither male nor female.
God is neither gay nor straight.
God is neither black nor white.

Or am I thinking of Michael Jackson?

(Sorry! Adapted from an old joke.)

Me! Me! Me! I know this one!

4. God is a Spirit, infinite, eternal and unchangeable, in His being, wisdom, power, holiness, justice, goodness, and truth.

I don't often get a chance to use the Shorter Catechism. I don't suppose you'd like to know what Man's Chief End is?

North East Quine, blissed out Presbyterian.

Something to do with the Bishop of Rome's enormities?

I'd like to think God was as Bruce Cockburn describes in "All the Diamonds".

"Like a pearl in sea of liquid jade
His ship comes shining
Like a crystal swan in a sky of suns
His ship comes shining."

But I would say two things, depending on my mood:

1.
God contains the most of everything;
joy and sadness, hurt and happiness, surprise and sorrow.

2.
God is both the killer and the killed, death and life.

Per Hildevert of Lavardin, some centuries back:

Over all things,
Under all things,
Outside all,
Inside all.

Within, but not enclosed;
Without, but not excluded;
Above, but not raised up;
Below, but not suppressed.

Wholly above, presiding;
Wholly beneath, sustaining;
Wholly without, embracing;
Wholly within, filling.

Wholly inconsistent, fabricating;
Wholly meaningless, blathering;
Wholly contradictory, bullshitting;
Wholly vacuous, drivelling.

It's not clever or meaningful to make a series vague, empty or self-defeating statements. It's not profound, it's just empty verbiage and a waste of pixels.

God is a colourless green idea sleeping furiously.
God is the golden corner of a purple sphere.
God is a frumious bandersnatch.

What utter rubbish. Next you'll be trying to tell us He's not English.

Well he usually has an American accent. (Unlike the devil - he's the middle-class English one).

God is man's attempt to personify something indefinable...

...but he's definitely a Clapton fan.
