I can't access the cafe anymore: haven't been able to for some time. When I click on my faverole desktop shortcut for it, it says I need to download something java related, but it opens up a page that doesn't do anything or have anything on it. I'm on a Mac. Is there a problem?

Ah! I've heard from another Mac user that they have the same problem! Any ideas, anyone? It must be a Java thing.

When I attempted to launch Faverolle, I got a message saying that 'The application's digital signature has expired' and asking me to confirm whether I wanted to run it or not. I clicked 'Yes' and it launched, but I then got a message saying a Java update was needed. When I clicked 'Yes' to that it started, but I then got a message saying that the download for the update had failed. In the end I downloaded the latest version of Java from the Oracle website and installed it. After that the Café launched without difficulty. (Once I used the correct password )
It is possible that this update from Apple may have caused the problem. I've not got the tech knowledge to be sure, but it looks as if they are asking users explicitly to accept a possible risk before downloading, rather than installing a whole package which includes that element of risk.

That Oracle site looks intimidating: I'll ask Z when she gets home - she speaks computerese better than I do!

If this helps at all, I'm on a 2012 MacBook Pro, and had no problems accessing. I am using Google Chrome.

Apologies to visitors last night. I made a rare visit to the cafe and my light bulb avatar was about the size of Australia!
Will look to fix that before my next visit. Sorry for the unintended disruption to WesleyJ and Doublethink and anyone else there whose avatar got blocked out by THE LIGHTBULB and who wondered (like I did) what the hell was happening!

The cafe server is moving to a new home. The URL stays the same, but your software may display warnings relating to the change in IP address or downloading and running the java client.

I've tried to get in but clicking on the link prompts me to open or save a file, which when downloaded does nothing when I click on it. I'm on a PC. What am I doing wrong?

Hm... I just getting this, in addition to the usual warning about java security issues, for the Cafe:
quote: The certificate used to indentify this application has expired.
This application will be blocked in a future Java security update because the JAR file manifest does not contain the Permissions attribute. Please contact the Publisher for more information.
quote: More information: Note to the Publisher: Security features to prevent unauthorized redistribution of you Java application will cause this application to be blocked in the future. See current Java documentation about JAR Manifest entries for the changes that need to be made.
Does this mean the Cafe will go bust shortly, technically speaking? What do Pease et al think?
Thank you!

The latest Java update (U45) has just messed up a lot of things I was doing, and FIREFOX has put it in quarantine. Perhaps this will cause Java to move a little faster on this issue.

I don't know the technical ins and outs of the thing, but after getting that Java update I'm now seeing the same message when loading applications at work. Either Java is talking bollocks or there are going to be a lot of software developers running round fixing their programs before it updates again!
