There is a special place in Hell for....

Godforsaken rat bastards who shoot to kill innocent schoolchildren

...innocent people in a shopping mall

...innocent police officers doing their job as well as they can.

What is your take on the hellish state of affairs in the US?

Should the perpetrators be punished with life in prison doing hard labor at Fort Leavenworth and should their parents who begat them be sued back to the stone age? When this sort of thing happens, I am no longer proud to be a native of the USA, but only proud to be a native third-generation Angeleno as I cannot remember it happening in Los Angeles. The 21st century appears to be a very deadly place.

Discuss.

Interesting observation. I wonder if these massacres are more likely to take place in small-to-medium sized cities/towns than in larger ones.

I guess the McDonalds massacre in 1984 was in San Diego, albeit(if I'm understanding wikipedia correctly) on the far southern outskirts.

The most infamous of these massacres in Canada, the so-called Montreal Massacre, took place in the titular city, one of the largest in the country.

I missed that one because I moved north of San Diego in 1978 before I was married and after I left SDSU, aka San Diego State University. Go Aztecs!

I was an art major with an interest in city planning, but not grad school material due to my grades although I was a board member of the La Jolla Shores Association and a student member of the Town Council....

I'm a 2nd generation Angeleno, and while there's much to love about this place, nonviolence isn't one of them. We may not have had any school shootings, but we've had two rounds of mass riots in my lifetime, that wasn't exactly a picnic.

So you miss the golden age of Los Angeles when people like Charles Manson and Tyrone Mitchell were wandering around?
Los Angeles Police Officers killed in the line of duty go back a long way too.

There may be more gang deaths or it may be that poor people of color getting killed didn't make the news nearly as often.

Looks like this fulfills the classic rant thread criteria. "I'm pissed off with these situations" is just as Hellish as "I'm pissed off with this Shipmate".

I think the OP is a rant and begs its own question. The counter-punching has already started. So the thread looks more likely to thrive in the Nether Regions, whether you want to join the rant or rant against the rant.

Let me free you from the normal Purgatorial restrictions. Seems kinder really. Enjoy the warmer temperature.

To get all pomo and emergent, liberal and wishy washy, they are in their special place in Hell right now. If we didn't want to call fire down on the sons of bitches we wouldn't be men. God speed their walk to Damascus-Emmaus.

...gun lovers who keep the weapons legal enough so that these severely mentally ill people have easy access to weapons. I'm so sorry the shooter who killed all those first graders shot his mother first because I wanted to shoot her myself.

Is it actually much more sinful than, say, train companies/oil companies loading 100 one-hundred-ton bombs and operating in a "you-can't-pin-anything-on-me" mode?

Or megamillionaires buying the democratic rights of North America?

or politicians sentencing women to "cruel and unusual punishments" for the crime of being female?

Or police, with the general attitude of "he ain't really people" doing after 13 hours, two rectal exams, three enemas, two X-rays and a colonoscopy.
and then the hospital billing the victim for what the police demanded?

Come to that, if you take adolescents, ship them off to prison-like surroundings where they don't know anyone much and teach them stuff they can't comprehend (because the system pushed them through without learning to read), why would you expect other outcomes? (not to mention that bullying/ostracism is built into most school systems and the corresponding societies outside the schools)

You don't fix problems in the system by repeating the mistakes you made before.

Until some sense moves into the way we treat each other, the sort of thing described in the OP is going to happen.

They're supposed to take part in the Syrian civil war now?

It seems like a problem of who to blame. I am sure that there would be less people shot if there was some decent gun control. There again, there would also be less people shot if there weren't so many crazies about.

There would be less suffering and anguish if we didn't live in a society so driven by greed and money that the pursuit of these seems to override all else. Or if those who made the money would use more of it to help others, and earn less of it by damaging the earth.

In truth, there should be a special place in hell for most people. We all suck.

Something in my head (or yours) could snap and I could be the next crazy.

As well as protecting people from the crazies we need to protect the people who could become the next crazy. Which is any of us.

You know what I hate? The modern tendency to say that no-one's mediocre. We may all suck, but we do not all suck equally. What are the first few circles of Hell for if we just grade everybody at 5 stars and send them straight to the centre?

I can't even manage mediocre.

To the contrary, you seem to have it down pat.
