Daughter living there. So visiting most evenings and some days. Have major museum plans (as usual!), will see at least a couple of plays, will have some daytime availability. Still building the plans and if it worked for a meeting, would include same. Staying centrally.

If you're at Kings, how about an India Club meet one evening? It has an amazing restaurant on the Strand near Kings College.
We have done London Ship meets to museums, exhibitions and theatre trips as well as boat trips on the Thames and churches ... it's not all restaurants and pub meets.

Gah. Mrs Eutychus and I will be in London starting on May 4
We are there interpreting for a conference on May 5-6 and not sure about availability for a meet yet, but I'll keep an eye on this thread.

I was thinking just the other day that it's about time we had an India Club meet. Sounds good!

Sorry I can't join you as the India Club is certainly a worthwhile choice.

I have a thing at Blackwells, Charing Cross. On the 10th.
Sorry.
Posted by no prophet (# 15560) on

The time period April 27 to May 02 is probably the most available according to our plans thus far.
Posted by Curiosity killed ... (# 11770) on

no prophet, do you want to set a date?
Doc Tor - do you want an India Club meet on 9 May? We can very easily be persuaded to go there and it's reasonably convenient for Charing Cross Road too.
Eutychus - you'll have to give us dates.

Let me know if the conference allows enough time to collect that much promised beer. I'll need a bit of notice to organise a sitter for the Tubblet so Rev T can come.

Just a suggestion - we have three separate visits to London already on this thread - would it make life easier if you ran three separate threads?
It would certainly make life a bit easier for the Hosts but I'm not suggesting that should be a primary consideration.

noprophet, are you any forrarder on your London plans?
27 April is a Sunday night, the other dates are Monday to Friday of that week.

What a pity - I am in London on 3rd May...travelling up for the day.
Sorry to miss you.

It looks like 28 or 29 April might do. Does a time on either of these days look good to anyone? April 30 going to a play in the afternoon. May 1 also possible.
Posted by Curiosity killed ... (# 11770) on
:
Evening on Monday 28 is possible for me - not sure about anyone else.
(That week is looking busy already and I'm not sure when I next get paid to have any money to come out and play)

Monday 28 April is currently clear in my calendar.

Sadly, neither Macarius nor I can make 28th.

There are 10 days to the 28th. Flying out tomorrow. Will check for replies. Not sure what the wifi situation will be, but will be checking.

28th may be possible for me. I'll watch this space. Safe journey No Prophet.

Actually, it looks like Monday 28th might be becoming possible again.
I'll keep you posted.

I think I can't make 28th. But if things change I will most certainly be there. If that makes sense.

Been busy this Easter weekend. Off to countryside now until Friday. Will check and confirm then. Firm yeas by then would be excellent.

I hope you're enjoying your visit, and not getting too wet!

Are you having fun? Which bit of the countryside are you in?

Monday 28 is the only date those of us who've signed up can manage. (We checked at the Petemeet), However, the slight little wrinkle is that the RMT have declared a Tube strike starting that night ... which makes all plans a bit indefinite.
I can still do this, but I'd prefer as early a meet as possible to get home or be nearly home before the strike starts at 9pm if it still goes ahead - and I live a lo-o-o-ong way out and there's no overground or bus alternative to get out as far as I need to go.
Posted by Yangtze (# 4965) on
:
I can't do 28th. For work not tube strike reasons.
But would love to meet if another day/time can be found?
Posted by no prophet (# 15560) on
:
I have 'net access only briefly tonight. Tube strike not good. I can be available almost anytime 28th. 29th also just need warning. If someone like Curiousity who has time and also time restrictions re Tube strike wants to select before I regain internet access, which shld be Friday, please go ahead and do so. I am not completely sure re the net on Friday because we will be in family apts at King's then.
(Data charges are robbery with Canadian cell phone, $10 per 100 MB, $100/gigabite in Europe so using free wifi only!)

28th might be possible and early rather than later would suit me. I'm at a conference in the City till 4.30, but not sure how sociable I'll feel afterwards!
Posted by no prophet (# 15560) on
:
Have internet, am posting.
Is there interest in 5:30 or 6? Earlier? Little bit later?
Posted by Curiosity killed ... (# 11770) on
:
6pm sounds good.
I'm going to be in Islington until 5-5:30pm, so 6 to 6:30pm is about as early as I'll get down to the Strand. If the strike is happening I'll have to leave by 7:30-8pm to get home.
Posted by M. (# 3291) on
:
6 sounds good to us as well.

As I will lose wifi access in accommodation on return to London this evening , and don't have a phone, can one of you please make the booking at the restaurant over the weekend? Thanks and looking forward to it.
Posted by M. (# 3291) on

I think the current list is:
noprophet
Curiosity Killed
possibly Gussie
Macarius
Me.
I'm happy to make a booking for 5 at the India Club for 6pm on Monday - is that OK by everyone?

I found an English SIM card well worth the value the 5 days I was in England - and an Indian one in India, although some bureaucratic hoops.

Real life, ugh, nasty, don't hold with it myself.
Anyway, table booked but I stupidly gave my surname without thinking - CK, noprophet, Gussie, I'll pm you all!

We found that the only sensible way to have mobile phones in the UK was to buy a couple of cheap, no-frills ones and get "pay-as-you-go" cards for them; even our mobile provider here in Canada said it wasn't worth our while to get them to work over there.

CK just alerted me to this... I will try to be there and will try to get Acton Bell as well. Sixish tonight. M, I have forgotten your surname... but I do know what you look like!

That was a great evening. Good people, good food. Yes, I would do it again, Meets are a Good Thing.
Unrelated note: it snowed 3" at home yesterday.
2nd unrelated note: good tip re sim cards.
