* don't come in through the front page and was mildly taken aback but it struck me as unlikely that the software is sufficiently flexible that it could d*** out personalised abuse.
* mean, everyone has got the "Piss off, Gildas, you tedious ***l*** twat, 8,**0 posts is at least 8,499 to many" message followed by the personalised signatures of all the Hosts and Admins, each with their own personal note of abuse, right?

Yes, * had noted the big screen writing at the top of the home page, but even so about the tone of the expression......!
BTW, * may be missing the obvious (not for the first time) but what does H&A stand for? * don't know what H&A Day consists of.
* thought * was being taken to task because a host did not like what * had written in a post.
Sorry if * missed the point by over-reacting to wording not intended to be taken seriously. OK, * will hold my fire for the time-being and see how it goes!

Seriusly, if we were able to tailor that message to give specific messages to posters, we'd have already used it enough times that everyone would know about it!

Whatever day it is for you - it may not resonate in the same way to others who may have been hurt/wounded because they've been told to ****** off irl.
That kind of language is uncalled for in any circumstance.

Seriously? Taking offence at the "Bugger off"? Personally, it gave me a warm fuzzy feeling to see someone had been playing with that message.

As an infrequent visitor these days, it gives me a warm, fuzzy feeling to see that the Ship remains disrespectful and subversive, and that there's still no shortage of pearl-clutchers, hankie-squeezers and the terminally bewildered.
Frankly, if an automated message telling you to bugger off (a message which most people don't seem to have even noticed) is enough to cause you serious trauma, the Ship is far too dangerous a place to be spending your time. You want something more like this.

It is precisely because of this sort of over-the-top, "oh my God you can't do that because someone somewhere might get upset" bullshit that we have H&A Days in the first place.

It made me smile when * first saw it, though * think * only noticed it some time after it had been put there.
TBH, * 'd never seen "bugger off" as being all that terrible a phrase in any case: * 'd always seen it as the kind of thing the stereotypically grumpy character says when they're sat in a pub nursing their nth pint of beer in either a sitcom or a light-hearted drama and their overly-cheerful friend comes and sits with them. It's normally and ignored and actually does mean "Hello, yes you can sit and chat with me - but * 'm not going to actually say that to you, because it'll only encourage you".

Is it any consolation that H&A's also get told to bugger off on our own day? (viz. 'Bugger Off, dj_ordinaire'...) We're nothing if not equal opportunity in the doling out of abuse!

Eye do not think that the software is capable of changing the greeting for shipmates on a personal basis.
