Should women be allowed into the R&A Golf Club?

Of course not, sez me. To paraphrase one of the house elves in Harry Potter, women have no business having fun on the golf course when there is housework to be done and husbands teas to get on the table.

They should let the women in.

But kick out all the men....

It would lose the "Royal and Ancient" character if women were allowed in.

Why? Last time * checked the Queen was both Royal and while not quite ancient certainly well into her years.

Except the golf club doesn't own the golf course. It's public land. * strolled across it when * visited St Andrews, and any woman can do the same.

Wikipedia states that the management of the courses at St Andrews is undertaken by a body called the St Andrews Links Trust, and that the Royal & Ancient lot have to compete for tee times with members of other local clubs.

People, people! Surely there's a bigger issue here. How will today's vote affect the ban on the playing of golf on the Sabbath?

Why would men or women want to play golf anyway? * 've quit the damn game four times, the last time decades ago. * blame the ****s for my countless wasted hours of misery.

Re St. Andrews:

From the pictures * 've seen, it might *almost* be worth learning to play golf, so * could go there.

Almost.

At St. Andrews you can play on the Pitch and Putt, which is right next to the Old Course. So you can be photographed and pretend to play on the hallowed turf itself. Thus * can boast that * 've scored a hole in one at St. Andrews without telling a word of a lie. Which aint bad for a mere woman. [Biased]

85% voted yes. Pity the rest of the jocks weren't as progressive as their golfers.

The Royal & Ancient is just a clubhouse. The courses are owned by a charitable trust and open to many local clubs and visitors.
