A new bishop.
Any views as to what he will be like or just another manager? [ 20. November 2014, 22:27: Message edited by: Ancient Mariner ]

I don't know, but there are strong rumours that Jeffrey John was in line for this and pipped at the post for obvious reasons.

He'll be excellent: holy, humble, pastoral, intelligent, self-aware, and thoroughly competent. Westcott will miss him. He'd have been a bishop ten years ago if someone--either he or his wife--hadn't been previously married.

What reasons?

Feel free to start a separate DH topic. In any case, this thread is about the new appointee, not about rumours of any other candidate. So for the sake of the usual demarcation rules re Purg/DH and the further guideline re sticking to the point, please pass on further speculation re Jeffrey John.

Although I am not an Anglican, I understand that David Thompson has done an excellent "holding" job in the Diocese (and might perhaps hope for promotion in the fairly near future?) - it was a big blow when ++Cantuar poached +Nigel!
Hopefully we will soon be able to get a new Bishop of Dunwich as well. [ 21. November 2014, 08:49: Message edited by: Baptist Trainfan ]

From what I hear +David has been very visible and active around the diocese. And highly popular. I have heard a few people say 'we love +David and want him to stay'.

So have I - but it was clearly not going to happen. Hopefully those people will respond positively to the new Bishop.
