Because, despite the style, it's true for me.

And I know I know NOTHING about depression ... well I do actually, but this hit me so hard this morning I was in tears at work - unless you sob, it looks like you're yawning (I walked round Morrison's six years ago with tears streaming down my face and no-one batted an eyelid) - and felt frightened by the depth of feeling. Which is about my frailty I realise, BUT, Frank's right. About the appalling dichotomy between liberalism and conservatism.

In Christianity.

I know it's orders of magnitude worse in America. Terrifyingly so, with apocalyptic potential. Here it's nothing. I don't know which is worse. The dichotomy is here. But utterly, utterly irrelevant. At least here there's hope. In Jeremy Corbyn. In the secular. America IS worse. Much worse. Britain is just pathetic. In terms of Christianity.

How are we to work this out? Together? Liberal and conservative. Euthanizing abortioneers and warmongers?

That's rhetorical, don't worry, answers on a postcard please. Sorry if this should be in Hell.

I know, I know: I just must get on visiting the sick, the imprisoned, widows and orphans. Have you tried?! 'strewth the bureaucracy!

A political scientist I know pointed out that back in the 50's, 60's and 70's while there were political differences the parties could come to a compromise mainly because the leaders had all gone through a common experience, namely WWII. Things started to unravel in the 80's because the WWII vets were retiring or dying off.

He also pointed out back in the 50's through 70's many of the congressional leaders would bring their families to live with them in D.C. There were get togethers after hours as it were so people know each other on a personal level. Nowadays the families of congressmen stay in their home districts and congress people will fly home for the weekends. Consequently, there is little social action between the parties anymore.

Actually, I don't agree. I think in Britain we have worked out a middle ground that accepts the edges, but rejects the extremes. Maybe that is the way we have dealt with it. There are wide views on most subjects, and we just have to accept and tolerate other people with differing positions.

Yes, I know it appears pathetic, a failure to stand for anything. Maybe it is the only way to be tolerant and accepting.
