Why has the welcome at the top left changed to salutations?
And why has the layout of the comment boxes changed? We now have a comment that reads "HTML is disabled, because it causes more problems than it's worth." which isn't word-wrapped, pushing the box further over to the right.

It's been fixed now.

I like "Salutations". Very "Charlotte's Web."

Hsil "Salutations"!

I quite like it. Gives me a warm fuzzy feeling.

Isn't the line "UBB code? What's that then?" new as well?

No, that one's been around for a while now

Likewise. Why shouldn't these little things change every now and then? It's part of what makes the Ship enjoyable. God knows, a little chuckle now and then is therapeutic.

I was more concerned that the hosts would go into 'random' mode again as they've done before, where threads turn up on random boards and it all goes a bit Magic Roundabout.
Posted by Doublethink. (# 1984) on
:
That would be a hosts and admin day - and there is a announcement in the styx when those happen.
Posted by Marvin the Martian (# 4360) on
:
Indeed. This was very much not "Random Mode", it was merely a refreshing change to a couple of wordings used around the place. Such things have been quietly going on for the whole time the Ship has been afloat, usually without there being any reaction whatsoever.
It's somewhat gratifying to find that somebody noticed it this time!

One day I wil be the bored Admin on deck and y'all will wake up to " whut up, dawg?" as your greeting.
Posted by Marvin the Martian (# 4360) on
:
That will be awesome.
I was tempted to do something like replacing one of the wordings on the front page with "Hail Gallaxhar", but that might have been going a bit too far...
Posted by Uncle Pete (# 10422) on
:
That would be cute for about 2 minutes. After that, though, I fear it would be extremely annoying.
Posted by RooK (# 1852) on
:
That actually sound quite apposite for much of the Ship.
Posted by Nenya (# 16427) on

I love the little quiet changes. I remember with fondness the advent of "You can check out any time, but you can never leave."

I like it very much. I've rarely been greeted with such respect. Just think, it could have been, "Oh no, it's ______."

I'm liking that one too.
Posted by Kelly Alves (# 2522) on

( It was me. I changed the edit message, too.)
I am beginning to suspect that Marv and I are the only ones on team Admin that still find playing around with the Wordlets a novelty. In any case, he started it, and I thought, "I wanna play!"

No greeting at all now!
Posted by Kelly Alves (# 2522) on
:
.? i didn't touch the greeting. the script is still in place, and I only mucked around with wordlets... Not sure why the greeting would shut off.
Unless one of my fellow admins felt frisky..

(After poking around) honestly, I don't know where I would find the place to turn that on and off, so I guess we will have to wait for it. Like I said, the script is stil there...

I'm no longer salutated. I'm asterisked. Was it something I said?

So, it looks like that entire line of text is not working. i have sent a note to pease. Hang in there. And keep checking your inbox via " profile".

Is there an alternative place to log in? Or log out? Just askin'
Posted by Nenya (# 16427) on
:
I think if you are not logged in there is a login link up at the top, next to My Profile, Directory, Search, FAQs. To log out the only way I've found is to click on Reply to a thread. Then you get your own "Displayed name" with a log out link in brackets next to it.
Nen - staying logged in at present, just to be safe, but hoping people aren't thinking she spends the whole day on the Ship.
Posted by Curiosity killed ... (# 11770) on

You're right. So that would give an alternative route to signing in - try posting and get the sign in screen there.
Posted by Nenya (# 16427) on

That's a high risk strategy - I've been known to compose a post and then log in, thereby losing the whole thing.

The best piece of advice I've seen for this is to compose your post in a note app or word processing program and then copy/paste when ready.
Not doing that has been the cause of much frustration. The iPad is especially prone to losing posts and mine has been saved from violent destruction only because my own complicity.

Yes, I quite like 'Salutations'.
Slightly more of a welcome than the deck swabbing 'Burger off'

Posted by Kelly Alves (# 2522) on

Well, it looks like in fixing things, pease had to restore the defaults, so we'll have to come up with some more snazzy tweaks.
i will bow out.
Fellow Admins, don't use a contraction in the mouseover text.
Posted by pimple (# 10635) on

Keep calm and carry on having fun, for frugs' sake.
Posted by Kelly Alves (# 2522) on

Ok, everything looks ok. A couple defaults were reset manually, is all.

Try this link. This means that there is no longer the requirement that all emoticons are stored in ship software. These include 🙈 🙉 🙊 and I think this is about the only occasion I will ever use those ones.

Nen - needs to get out more.

It reminds me of a song from a school music production we did when I was ten - 'Salutations, hail, good day, and how do you do! Sorry that we all turned up right out of the blue!' I keep singing it to myself when I come on here! (Just googled it, as I remember an awful lot of it, and I'm sure plenty of others must have done it too - Queen Beryl and the Romans - or I Came, I Saw, I Made a Mess of it.)

I'm rather liking "Salutations!" It has a slightly I, Claudius feel to it. I now feel a slight urge to wear a toga.
But that might just be me.

Someone once said "Greetings and hallucinations" somewhere to me, and I liked it, because it challenged my mind to consider that I am a fool in the face of goodness knows how many fine phrases and arguments.
Every time I see or hear the word "salutations" now as I sign in, I want to roll a blunt, listen to some Kraftwerk and learn the answers to the problems of this universe and any other universe you (s)hippies care to invent.

I just wanted to add that in French you usually put a space before the exclamation mark.
