Yes, I know it's too early to be thinking about Christmas, but the Christmas catalogues are starting to arrive and international last posting dates will soon be upon us.
If you haven't taken part in Secret Santa before and are interested in buying a gift for a total stranger and receiving a mystery gift yourself, then send me the following details:
Your real name
Your address
Your likes/dislikes/allergies, whether you are happy to receive hand crafted items
Where you are happy to send to: Europe, America, Britain , anywhere in the world.
Please do this by the end of October.
I will then match you up with a "Santee" for whom you will get a present costing approximately £5 and aim to send it to them so it gets there by Christmas!

I finally got going on the Christmas front yesterday, wrapped some presents and staggered off to the Post Office with them this morning. My Secret Santa present was among them, and it is now on its way. Assuming the PO is not using snails as transport this year, it should arrive with my santee shortly.

Package sent a week or two ago but the post office man was doubtful it would show up before Christmas. Apparently Canadian PO likes to think about it a while when handling something from USA. He said might be a day or 2 late.

Strangely enough, that is what the Canadian post office tells us about any out-of country post... that it is the receiving post office's slowness.

Now that we are of an age where all our presents from family are 'money to buy things we want', and since we don't have children, we know what most of our presents are (although I will still pack them!). So it's really lovely to have a surprise waiting for Christmas Day.

Dear Secret Santa,

I am sure that your package arrived before Christmas but I have pneumonia and have been bedded down for the last week. Today on trip to doctor I picked up a week's worth of mail.

There was my package from across the pond. Oh so worth waiting for. The sweet tree and star garland now hangs on the head of my bed. I just might leave it there all year. The candy is tucked away for special treats from time to time. The spice packet sits on my kitchen cookbook case along with the most wonderful gift of all the fun cookbook that I have already started reading.

Thank you for your thoughtful package. It made my day.

Secret Santa thought my gift may not reach me until New Year, but the reindeer were turbocharged and the winds were tail. Thank you - I am setting up a new office and the wee specimens of heeland flora and fauna will adorn the central coffee table!

The mail carrier was just at the door with a wonderful package from my very thoughtful and creative Secret Santa. A book that looks fascinating, a wee icon, and chocolates (which were promptly devoured). Thank you so very much!

We're doing well! Hopefully everyone should get their gifts before 12th Night at this rate! There's still 6people waiting, and one or two Santas who either haven't let me know that they have posted, or have let me know that their present will be late for various unavoidable reasons.

I returned from the First Day Back at w**k to find a parcelette secreted in my porch, with USPS stickers, so all excited I got!

Thank you Santa-from-SF for the chocolate and exotic souvenirs from SF Zoo. Is that portrait of your good self? [Eek!]

According to my records then, everyone has received except:
Rossweisse
JB
Motherboards
Cottontail

My Santa has informed me my gift is on it's way

Is there anyone else still waiting? Christmas still has a week to go!

Yesterday, JB and I returned from Christmas trip and got our mail. Both of our SECRET SANTA prezzies arrived!
I immediately tucked into the candy snowflakes and put earrings into the darling trinket box. Thank you, Santa!
JB was so touched that Santa loved the horse and York magnet. Thank you from him, also.

Blessings to both of you for being so thoughtful.

I did receive a lovely pair of presents from my Secret Santa! (I apologize for being offline - a family crisis got in the way.) She knows me well, and I am grateful.

Two delightful wooden ornaments from Australia have appeared via La Poste. There is no identifying note/card and I don't know anyone in Australia who might be sending me wooden ornaments, so I am assuming that these are from my Secret Santa.

In which case, thank you. They are lovely!

Yes, that was your Santa.

Footsore and weary, Santa has stumbled bleary-eyed into the wilds of Scotland, mumbling about floods and recalcitrant reindeer and such like. But bless him, he has brought me some marvellous chocolate (Montezuma's Colombian Cappuccio truffles and some Green and Blacks), and a dinky little Christmas tree photo frame.

Santa, it was well worth the wait. Thank you so much for your thoughtfulness.

Tomorrow is 12th night. The two who are still on the outlook should keep their beady little eyes peeled, eh? Or is it February 2nd, now?

Thank you to my not so secret Santa! A parcel containing a cute owl purse/shoulder bag arrived today.
So, we're just waiting for Rowan's gift to arrive, and we will be able to close this thread until September.
Thank you to all who have taken part.

Just a note to say that I am using my SS gift (a skein of think-and-thin yarn in shades of white) to knit a hat. It should just come out exactly, one hat from one skein of yarn. I have a friend who is having chemo, and could use a hat.

That sounds lovely Brenda. Could we have a picture?

where/how does one post them? Can you append it to the post?

Brenda, we don't have pictures on the forum for a variety of reasons. You would need to choose a photo storage site, there are many available. Uploads to there and use a link to the picture from that site.

An extra thought. You may need to try a couple to find a site which you like and can use easily. Photobucket, Picasa, Flickr could be a start although I now hate Flickr since Yahoo took them on and wrecked things. If you have a website of your own, you could have a page specifically for photos.

Rowen's Santa has been told that her present should arrive by 21st January, so could we leave the thread open till then?

Posted by Brenda Clough (# 18061) on :

OK, I don't know if this will work, but This ought to be the relevant board on my Pinterest page, which I have only just begun using. In theory you can click on that link and see a bad photo of me, modeling the hat made out of the skein of Secret Santa yarn.

I don't see why not.

That link works, Brenda Clough, and it looks like a wonderfully warm and stylish hat!

The hat used all but about a yard of the yarn, and has been despatched to the cancer patient. (I did it on big needles in 1-1 rib, and shrank it down at the top to a mere six stitches to make a tube long enough to tie into a knot.)
I learn that due to the chemo she has lost all her hair, and it should be good for her -- it is 20 degrees (F) today.

After consultation with the other AS hosts and St. Gwladys, it's been decided to close the thread; if the remaining outstanding Santee would let St. G. know when their present arrives, that would be great.

Thank you, and once again, a huge thank you to St. G. for organising the whole thing.

Piglet, AS host

Thread closed (until next year!)
