This dreadful news has broken this afternoon.
Thoughts and prayers go out to her husband and small children. What an appalling thing to happen.

I'd encourage anyone to read her husband, Brendan's statement. It's at the bottom of this piece

We cannot afford for people like her to be taken.

I disagree with you and what you stand for. I will, therefore, kill you.
That seems to be the order of the day now seeping insidiously into the home of the Mother of Parliaments..

A hateful thing. The veneer of civilisation is looking thin indeed.
Lord have mercy.

This is absolutely appalling.
There was an assassination attempt in 1966 on Arthur Calwell, the then Leader of the Opposition here. Fortunately the glass of the window of the car deflected the bullet slightly and Calwell escaped with only minor injuries. His assailant was found not guilty on the basis of mental illness.

Her father-in-law is my old choirmaster. I didn't make the connection when I first saw the story - Cox is a very common name.
Brendan's statement is well worth reading. Rest in peace and rise in glory, Jo.

May her children be surrounded by love, as Brendan Cox said.

Archbishop Sentamu was on the radio this morning suggesting that Jo Cox's death be viewed as a martyrdom.

It frightens me the way the country is going - if you are not one of 'us' I will kill you/ if you are one of 'them' you deserve to be killed. However you define them and us.

Jo Cox seems like a sweet lady who was loved by all. How could this happen? It almost made me cry for those poor children and their father who lost her. How could this happen in the UK? Where did the gun come from?
I watched the BBC news feed instead of US television to see how this terrible loss happened. If you don't agree with the views of your MP, vote her out - don't kill her!

Initial appearances seemed to be that he used information from a US group to construct his gun himself.
