With Easter very near now, I think this a good time to denounce talk of fixing the date of Easter. I would rain imprecations upon those proposing such an enormity, but Good Friday has helped me to be charitable. Yes, the Lord uses the church calendar to work miracles.
Speaking of which, this Good Friday is one illustration of why fixing Easter is such a bad idea. The rare correspondence of Good Friday with the normal date for the Feast of the Annunciation has inspired much worthy contemplation through the centuries, including from the Bede and John Donne, not to mention less worthy (but fun!) speculations of the apocalyptically minded before a correspondence in 992. Abbo complained that rumors of that marking the end of the world had filled the world!
We’ve been fortunate to experience this conjunction twice, in 2005 and this year. But it will not occur again until 2157 . . . or never if the liturgical vandals have their way.
And this potential loss would be just a part of the loss of tradition, the loss of links with the church through the ages should we fix the date of Easter.
Trust me that I could say more.

A fixed Easter would rule out Easter falling both very early (as this year), or very late. Next year of 2017, the date of Easter will be 16 April - an average date between early and late. I believe that Easter fell on 25 April in 1943, possibly the latest possible date on which Easter can fall. In 1951, I believe the date of Easter was 25 March and possibly the earliest date on which Easter can fall.
My information is off the top of my head, without any opportunity to check.
Personally, I would like to see avoided, the clocks being changed the same weekend, as is the case this year.

There is a thread, but it's in Purgatory, not Ecclesiantics:
ABC to solve easier problem... a fixed date for Easter.

Funny how Abp. Welty and so many others don't mind not being 'biblical' on this matter. There's more precise and definite instructions on this than on the proper use of genitalia, but hey...

I thought Pascha was 1 May this year.

Ah. If people would rather discuss it there, it won't hurt my feelings.
Please do. This thread is closed.
