I intend to go on my first retreat in some years in January, after the busyness of Christma and New Year at work. I'll be soending 5-7 days at the monastery where my bishop resides, and, whie conversations are likely to be had about my current state and possible future, (given a difficult recent ecclesiastical history), the bulk of my time there will be spent in retreat.

Does anyone have any suggested prayers or reading on the subject of healing and growth, particularly with a Benedictine foundation? If so, I'd be very grateful for any suggestions.

I'm not familiar with readings, but if you don't know it already, you might perhaps start with the Rule of St. Benedict.

Thomas Merton, perhaps.

Take a look on the Eighth Day board as well.

I can warmly recommend any of the several volumes by "A Carthusian" (publ. Gracewing). You're bound to find helpful and relevant reading in every chapter. But leave lots of silent space too, without reading. And what Spike said.

I hope the retreat goes well for you. [Axe murder]
