To be eligible for Newbie of the Year, the shipmate must have joined the boards sometime between 1 January 2008 and now. We're looking for the person who has made the biggest splash, or become the most colourful character, or contributed best in the short time they've been on the Ship. Who could it be? Nominate here!

I nominate: Phil 99a

For: Newbie of the Year

My reasons for nominating: After, iirc, one of those look at me I know it all starts (and God knows, many of us have been there) Phil has settled into a rhythm of posts that fluctuates from creative inanity to thought provoking pleasantry. That range is a result of his choice to target his 770+ posts since June towards the fluffy boards, but hey, fluff is cool, and anyway the man likes dylan

My reasons for nominating: Leaf has only been here since October, and (at the time of writing) only racked up 22 posts. But they contain gems like the idea of a One True Church-Off and comparing Father Gregory to Elmer Fudd . When Leaf is the last poster on a thread, I already click to say what s/he has to say. Reason: Because he's only been here since November, but he's made me notice him, and because he's really jumped into the spirit of the ship.

My reasons for nominating: Just about the funniest little newbie to pop into Hell I can remember. Posts in free verse. Has rambling, vaguely anti-semitic/anti-protestant/anti-muslim thoughts. Has provided me with more entertainment in one afternoon than most newbies manage in a year

I'd like to second Dainty of Surrey.

I mean, where the fuck does he get that stuff about Jewish eskimos? To generate such inspired whimsy when one lives in Surrey is truly worthy of recognistion (I blame Michael Chabon myself).

I'll third this nomination. It's a shame we can't give him a golden asshat, but in their absence Newbie of the Year will do.

Jewish eskimos, tight knit scandals, Barry Island Genesis... I don't know whether to or .

I wondered if DoS 'appeared' in order to be nominated for something - maybe he hasn't realised that the Asshat has disappeared in a puff of smoke? An interesting angle on the Newbie award, Marvin.

We can't give DoS an award as he is a creation of the Principalities and Powers, put here as a "substitute asshat" so no real Shipmate could be nominated for that award.

I don't know which of the Hosts and Admins is operating DoS but they are doing a hell of a job!
