Certainly nothing comes close to the threads where you've posted. They are the #1 bastion of Catholic bigotry in my personal experience.
#2 however, would be Dubuque, Iowa. I lived there from 1982 to 1985. A quote from the link sums it up.

When asked about my religious background, I tried a few times to explain the Independent Pentecostal Holiness movements that my father preached in but could never get much back beyond, "So Protestant, right?"
There were some bars though where people couldn't say, "British" without prefixing it with "Bloody Fucking."

Say, Grits, I've been meaning to ask: did you grow up with Catholic counter tops, or Protestant? I guess ours were Protestant, but I'm not sure how to tell. My Dad taught me to divide the world into "Pentecostal" and "Lost" so I have a lot of Catholic/Protestant dyslexia.
The builder of my current townhouse apologized when the Hispanic carpenters put in Catholic countertops. That was too much. As a Pentecostal apostate I could almost stomach Protestant, but Catholic? No way.
I got so pissed off I tore them out myself and put in Unitarian ones. Marcus Borg told me in class the other day that if I sand them down and get 'em really slippery I can pass them off as Jack Spong Believer in Exhile countertops. Generally I hate imitations, but I'm on a strict budget.

Why, thank you for asking, Jim. Actually, my countertops have always been purely nondenominational, which may explain my occasional inability to distinquish between the Prostestant/Catholic variety.
However, if I were ever to discover I had been given countertops which were at variance with my own preferences and desires, I'm sure I would try to find a way to live peaceably with them, just the way they are.
When you have as much countertop space in your kitchen as I do, it's easier to deal with a little of this and a little of that.
(BTW, my grease stains usually resemble a montage of a 7-day creation.)

I don't know all that happened back then, but I remember her board and her asking people NOT to post anything negative about the Ship.
