I think I did rather well considering I never actually signed up, and only entered the 1st round because it was chemistry related. Anyway good luck to the remaining competitors, I knew my time had been and gone.
There once was a lady named flags Who into the quiz was dragged Til, a pirate you must be a nice one though you see and, her enthusiasm started to sag

SEMI-FINAL : THE DIRTY DOZEN
You have until the evening of Tuesday 20th November to pick out 12 pictures from the internet to represent a dozen of the posters on this Knockout Quiz thread.
There must be a good reason for picking the image and it must relate to the name of the person, their avatar, or something that they have posted in this thread. People joining the thread at this point should have a chance of guessing.
Numbers 1 to 3 should be guessed by everyone who has a go. Numbers 4 to 9 should achieve a result rate of greater than 50% right by those guessing. Numbers 10 to 12 can be as difficult and obscure as you like.
You must PM me the reasons/logic for your choice of image after I have had a chance to guess. I will let you know next Wednesday or Thursday.
You will score one point for each image posted by another shipmate and guessed by yourself. You will lose a point for everyone who fails to get any of your first three. You will lose a point if anyone fails to get more than 50% of your middle six. You will gain a point if nobody guesses one of your last three and there is a 'good reason' for the choice.
I am looking forward to seeing the images once chosen. Take your time. Make good choices.
12 internet images to choose. 12 links needed.

Dear Mr Quizmaster Sir, I wish to profoundly and wholeheartedly apologise for my behaviour this weekend. Emigrating to the other side of the world , to a continent I had never been, and knew noone, became more important to me than the quiz. Although I can reassure you that this abberation was only very, very brief, I can still see how heinous and unthoughtful this attitude was to you and all my fellow contestants. I would like to take this opportunity to express my regret at my error, and faithfully promise that this will not happen again,
Yours, icklejen*

<sucking-up> In the version of this round I originally suggested, it was only one link each! Quizmaster clearly thinks we aren't working hard enough given the hugeness of the prizes this year.

Am I interpreting the task correctly in thinking that people will have to have to guess purely from the picture who it refers to, and won't be allowed to do any, er, research to find out what the conections might be?

Dammit, I knew posting in the middle of the night was a bad idea. Copied the wrong link for number 5; that one has two possible answers.
It should be:
Picture Number 5
And since it's now 2.41am, I'm going to bed.

Some of these are really puzzling. I think I figured out one of the really cryptic ones, though.
Must keep thinking.
This reminds me of the anagrams at the beginning of the Quiz! An inordinate amount of each day was spent looking and thinking and rearranging letters. It's deja vu all over again.
