Then we think about how many points we would have scored if they had been on our list.
But it does serve to acknowledge those who die, which I think is a real service.

the downside being when we're in church and whoever's reading the POPs says, "we pray for the eternal rest of Rock Star X, who passed away this morning at the age of 35...." and as the rest of the congregation bows their head and perhaps conjurs up a tear, a Shipmate in the back jumps up yelling, "Right on! 65 points! Thank you, Rock Star X!"
I really love this game. I will not miss the deadline this December.

It seems that Colin McCrae has been killed in a helicopter crash. Which is a) lots of points if anyone had him and b) a real tragedy, to lose someone who was a big star and one of the good faces of motorsport.

I predicted on one of the disliked books threads that he would need the assistance of a ghost writer to finish the series.
I didn't mean it in quite that way, though.

That Bastard!
Robert Jordan cured me of starting any series of books (trilogies for example) without them being finished first because that bastard looked like hell when I met him in college at a book signing, almost 20 years ago! He should have finished the series years ago!!!! A pox on his corpse.

He was brilliant in real life too. There was a time, a long time ago, which will date me horribly, when the News Quiz was taken out to London University Colleges to be broadcast and they came our way a few times. Some of the team and production crew used to hit the Union Bar afterwards. Alan Coren was one who came for a drink and had a crowd hanging round him because he was so brilliant to chat to.

Charmin put on a eulogy of sorts -- a commercial featuring snippets from older commercials of his. I thought it was a lovely gesture. He's become a part of folklore along with Clara Peller (the "Where's the beef?" lady), the various actresses who played the "I've fallen and I can't get up" lady, and so many others.
