I thought he was so amazing in Brokeback Mountain.

Well gang Britney Spears was carted off to the hospital again by ambulance, with a police escort of motorcycles two cruisers and a helicopter. Maybe this time they will keep that poor girl in detox and get her the mental help she needs.

Here's my list:
1. Billy Graham 2. Bob Barker 3. Mickey Rooney 4. Ian Paisley (can't come soon enough for me. Oh, sorry, I know that's not very Christian but...) 5. That dude, the English rocker, drug user...uhh, Pete Doherty, isn't that his name? 6. Dick Cheney 7. David Lee Roth: Has anyone seen him lately? He looks like his skin is yellow parchment! Ugh! The years have not been kind to ol' David 8. Burt Reynolds: Another guy who has done some hard livin'!
That's my list for the moment. I'm cold and need to go find warm things to wear. I'm outta here!

Psst... SpikeyPants... I think that you missed the deadline to play for points.
From the OP: quote: ...if you do not post it before 11:59 on 31st December 2007 (GMT) you will be unable to take any further part in the contest.
Unless, of course, you don't care about the points, and just want to have fun, watching to see if you (and other shipmates) guessed right.

In case it hasn't made the Northern Hemisphere news, Alfredo Reinado has been shot dead, while trying to assassinate East Timor president and Nobel Laureate Jose Ramos-Horta. According to Wikipedia, that's 59 points for me.
And for President ramos-Horta and the people of Timor L'Este (partly to assuage my guilt at thinking of the points first). [ 11. February 2008, 19:39: Message edited by: Cusanus ]

We heard about it - it was extensively covered on NPR this morning.
But I didn't think to check the deathpool! I've updated the scoreboard.

Oooops! Yes, I saw the deadline AFTER I'd already posted. I thought to myself, "Oh, someone is going to hand me my head on a platter or call me a moron for not reading the stuff about the deadline! I'm glad you didn't do either. Hey, I'm forty years old and my mind seems to be going. This old girl had a brain fart.

Breaking news on the BBC website - still on the scrolling news bar, so no link yet - is that Porn Baron and property magnate Paul Raymond has died.
That link is work-safe. Googling for it was interesting, though...

I didn't recognize either of the last two names. (Nobody had either one.)
Also unselected was Gary Gygax, the creator of Dungeons and Dragons. I knew his name even though I've never played the game. He died today at the age of 69.

The BBC is having a bad time ATM, as there is a typo in the Cap'n Birdseye story.
No-one has mentioned Carol Barnes, I don't think. I am fairly sure no-one had her either, but she deserves a mention.
