1. Prince Philip
2. Pope Benedict
3. Fidel Castro
4. Robert Mugabe
5. David Jason, actor
6. Ian McKellen, do.
7. Osama bin Laden
8. Mrs. Obama, US First Lady
9. Maggie Thatcher
10. Prince Harry of England
11. Colin Dexter, author
12. David Attenborough
13. The Duchess of York

What a strange game! I rarely read the obituary columns, but when I do, I'm entranced by lives more interesting than some of the above. I expect to be somewhere near the bottom of the reults list, with only the "wrong" people dying!

This is mostly a recycled list from last year. Though with one or two changes...
1.Ozzie Osbourne - don't know why, just have a feeling...
2. Robert Mugabe
3. Clive Dunn - he's old
4. Margaret Thatcher
5. Nelson Mandela
6. Jimmy Saville - old and wierd.
7. Michael J. Fox - this would be a shame, but, hey, c'est la game.
8. Stephen Hawking - although I wonder if he can truly just go on forever...
9. Marguerite Patten - I can't believe she's still around!
10. Fidel Castro
11. Amy Winehouse
12. Bruce Forsyth - he's fit and hale and hearty, but the dancing will get him in the end...
13. Michael Foot.

I took Claude Levi Strauss off my list. At 100 years old, I don't think he's worth having on the list!

* Robert Mugabe
* Wendy Richards
* Jade Goody

I am of course shocked and appalled etc. etc.--mostly by the fact that I can't believe so many of my carefully chosen picks from last year still seem so healthy. So here is my Kiss of Life picks for 2009:

1. Patrick Swayze
2. Michael Jackson
3. Barack Obama
4. Robert Mugabe
5. Billy Graham
6. Robert Schuller
7. Margaret Thatcher
8. Pope Benedict XVI (because he looked HORRIBLE on the Christmas broadcast).
9. Amy Winehouse. Given my normal luck in this pool, this will be the inspiration she needs to enter rehab, find Jesus, and become the president of the Altar Guild.
10. Elizabeth Taylor
11. Edward Kennedy
12. Nancy Reagan
13. Stephen Hawking

No - it is George Henry Lascelles, floreat.

Both Lascelles and Har(e)wood are common names Kevin. I wouldn't worry too much about being related, except in the sense that we are all related to Adam. (And we know what happened to him!)

My list (in no particular order) is:

The Duke of Edinburgh
Norman Wisdom
Morgan Tsvangirai
Wendy Richard
Eric Idle
George HW Bush
Syed Yousaf Raza Gillani
Nelson Mandela
Jason Plato (touring car driver)
Sylvestor Stallone
Brandon James Routh (The Superman curse strikes again)
Lord Carey of Clifton
George Michael

Some of these are old so may miss the New Year's Eve 2009 celebrations through natural cessation of the metabolic processes and some are politicians in parts of the world where not being elected is not the only way to lose office. The rest are just people who may get me some good points.

Mad Geo and Timothy - I think you are too late. Not that it is my call anyway, but I think the rules are that they must be posted by midnight, 31st Dec ship time - which is UK time, I think.

And you are both 3 hours late on that basis.

Thats really quite sad, especially as I have a 16YO who had a seizure over the holidays. I do feel for John.

My immediate thought was that Jett had seen his dads earlier movies, and died of embarrassment.

I don't think anyone had Ron Asheton, Stooges guitarist (got "1969" on as I type - seemed fitting).

And I can't help thinking that Adolf Merckle was the sort of person Uriel would have spotted.

RIP. Actually, on second thoughts, not sure Ron would have appreciated peace and quiet!

Hey, you know that you have four more slots to fill? You might as well optimize your chances.
Ah, ok. My mistake. Here's 4 more:
John McCain
Andy Rooney
Elizabeth Edwards (wife of John Edwards)
Kelsey Grammer

I have a question: why do so many of you have Wendy Richards on the list? Is she ill? I watch old re-runs of Eastenders here in the states but we don't hear anything about the actors here.

She had, apparently, recorded all the computer's 'lines' for this year's movie, so we will (probably) hear 'Processing' in her tones for the last time.

Wendy Richard is suffering from cancer which is, apparently, terminal. See here for a news report.

I managed to forget about this Death Pool this year, having been a regular for a while. However, I'm fairly certain that not a single person on my list died last year, and I believe only one the year before, so I'm not too sad to have stopped giving them the benefit of my 'protection'. Luckily for them, there are various people who have my recent picks on their list... [Devil]

I'm tempted to allow anyone who entered last year's, who hasn't posted a new list, to carry their 2008 list into this game.
Anyone with a full 13 from 2008 can keep them, but those with a few spaces don't get to refill them.

What do you say ?

Basso - would that be easy to organise?

I don't want to dig through the two lists and compare names, but if a 2008 contestant posts here and asks to have their old list rolled forward, that's easily done.

WK, are we okay with a late fill-in for ChaliceGirl?

Patience, grasshopper. Last year we got our first hit in January, but IIRC it was into March the year before.

They will fall, trust me.
