I didn't read other lists before posting, and now am amazed at the number of people who, like me, have included the youthful Lindsay Lohan on their lists. I wonder if our theories concerning her possible demise match as well?

Man, Mamacita's a past winner, and she's got Ebert on her list. And she's from Chicagoland, where I presume there is local scuttlebutt. I think I'll put him back on my list. Might be bad for Michael Douglas, although the only one I've left off who died was Dan Schorr (memory eternal) and he was ninety-plus.

Kim Jong-Il
Muhammad Ali
Seve Ballesteros
Rev. Billy Graham
Aretha Franklin
Margaret Thatcher
Amy Winehouse
Elizabeth Taylor
Robert Mugabe (how long, Lord???)
Roger Ebert
Stephen Hawking

Practically the same list as last year, because I've been far too busy gadding around the shop like a decapitated fowl to actually do any research... though a few minutes on the Beeb website's search facility has given me some subs.

1. Aretha Franklin
2. Hugo Chavez
3. Rush Limbaugh
4. Sharif Ahmed (Somali President)
5. Russell Watson
6. Jimmy Armfield
7. Michael Douglas
8. Paul Gascoigne
9. Annemarie van Kesteren (wife of Man U goalie Edwin Van der Sar - so read the Sun for her...)
10. Alan Stanford
11. Bernie Madoff
12. Tony Blair
13. Jerry Lee Lewis (can you tell that I was getting a bit desperate towards the end...?)

Good luck... to some of them!

Pretty much the same as last year.

Rush Limbaugh -- just because
Mary Tyler Moore -- aging diabetic (74)
Dick Cheney -- but the devil never dies
Dick Clark -- waiting for the ball to drop
Elizabeth Taylor
Mickey Rooney -- tiny but toxic
Nancy Reagan
Lauren Bacall -- 84
Kirstie Alley
William Shatner -- red-faced, bloated boozebag
Leonard Nimoy -- looking cadaverous
Rachel Zoe -- caftans can hide an eating disorder only so long.
Lindsay Lohan -- they can't keep her in rehab forever.

Erm, Justin Bieber isn't yet 18, so he's exempt.

My defense for knowing about this is that I used to be a youth leader in the city he lived in part-time. Still, I obviously need help. [Disappointed]

At least two of the above are fictional (first and last), although some may not realise that. I reckon they are punts for the 'Inside Track' award.

For the record, I think we should amend the rules to explicitely say that all picks must be real people. (I'll go and make a change to the OP now.) If anyone has a fictional character, please can you post your replacement as soon as you can. Please don't take advantage of your few extra hours by posting someone who has already died this year. Thanks.

Ditto for anyone who has picked a minor, since the rules do explicitely say that all selections must be over the age of 18. Anyone who has a child in their list has until midnight January 2nd GMT to post their replacement.

I'm just noticing in the breaking news as I get online for something else that Sargent Shriver has died. [Votive]

He was the founding director of the Peace Corp and head of the War on Poverty in the '60's. I think he was married into the Kennedy family (brother-in-law to JFK), but this is just an early brief obit without many details.

He was 95.

Considering it's still only January, you are bound to be in the top ten. I believe basso is doing the honors, but it is still probably early to expect a fully running scorecard.

exHirsch, the scoreboard is here. I don't know how often basso updates it, but your points are there already.

I usually update the scoreboard after I see a post on this thread. Sometimes I'm a day or two behind, but the bulk of the work is getting it set up at the start of the year.

Amanda, you're about 4 days behind Queen Mousie with the report - but it's funny enough that I'm glad you came in anyway.
