I saw her as Henry Higgins' mother a few years ago in "My Fair Lady." And I could have attended a luncheon with her a few months ago -- if I'd had thousands of dollars for a fund raiser.

Having recently been there, and seen the exhibition about Bloody Sunday, that is a real loss. The bravery he showed there should be remembered.

I'm sorry to hear about Bishop Daly; a friend on FB who used to be the organist of the Church of Ireland cathedral in Derry, and was (with his colleague at the RC cathedral) one of the founders of the Two Cathedrals Festival posted a very nice tribute to him.
May he rest in peace and rise in glory. ![[Votive]](graemlins/votive.gif)

I can't help thinking that the headline, "Billionaire landowner dies aged 64" is a bit odd - why wouldn't they have said "Duke of Westminster dies ..."?
It's not as if it's an obscure title that nobody's heard of.
Either way, may he rest in peace.

He can't have won many matches for Pakistan but he saved a fair number. An innings of about sixteen hours is nearer three days playing time than two.

I didn't know this guy, I didn't grow up in the area. But some years ago my mother sent me a newpaper article(I was out of town for a while) that a gentleman named Frank Wiziarde had passed away, in Kansas City. I grew up watching a show he did, as "Whizzo the Clown" I actually cried a little because, as you said, a part of my childhood died with him.

Agreed. Gene Wilder's Willy Wonka was the definitive version for me. I have long planned to use one of his lines when I get around to retiring, and it seems to me an appropriate one to bring up in connection with Wilder's death. Wonka has explained to Charlie the real purpose of the contest and Charlie asks him why he would do that. Wilder, with perfect gentleness and just a touch of sadness in his smile says: "I can't go on forever...and I don't really want to try."

Very sad to hear this. The man was inspirational - when you heard him direct, admittedly. Misreported by the Press, less so.
