It's a "weak" syllable and quite common in rhyming schemes, where the "strong" syllable actually carries the rhyme.

Why Stockton? It's hardly "East of Eden" - nor paradisiacal (although its inhabitants may, I suppose, disagree).

* Only one hand, actually, but who cares if it rhymes? Anyway, he threw the spear twice, so perhaps he used his other hand after missing David the first time.

We haven't had a summary for quite some time. So, taking up where the last summary left off:
King Solomon lived not round here, His wisdom was elsewhere; He preached it out, loud and clear, It seemed so right to share.
"Beware ungodly men!" he cried. "Just run away and play." Yet in idolatry he died! His faithlessness at bay.
In Nisroch's fane, Sennacherib 'sieged King Hezekiah. From sackcloth fashioned he a bib "You have to help me, Squire!"
Israelite Judith packed her knife, It was a very sharp one. "Holofernes, this was your life, Although it was a short one."
Melchizedek, of priestly line, Appeared from who knows where, Blessed Abram's victory by God most high And gave him one tenth share.
Brave Jael, with her butter dish Had much more up her sleeve. Acceding to lord Sisera's wish, His temples did she cleave.
The money-changers had their way In Salem's Temple Court; Until some upstart said, "No way!" And thrashed their biz to naught.
By Raphael led, Tobias went, A bailiff for his Dad; "Just use the fish. It will prevent The sods from going bad."
Strong Samson, now, with jawbone pois'd And luscious locks of hair, A thousand killed, and then he noised, "Delilah, art thou there?"
Now Absalom, in oaken vice By his hair was caught. You couldn't say his fate was nice and neither was it short.
But what of Tamar? Sad her fate To live fore'er forlorn, Childless, widowed, without a mate, and the sheep did not get shorn.
Take Maher-shalal-hash-baz, he Who had the longest name, Or so the Bible says, but we Are doubtful, all the same.
Old Joseph, when in prison pent, 'Cos Pot'phar's wife had lied Was glad when Pharoah for him sent: "Joe, I have no Dream Guide."
Those dry bones heard the Word of God. Ezekiel preached it loud. "Stop sleeping in the land of nod. It's time to wake up now."
On Pentecost the flames appeared, loud praising heard abroad. It might catch fire they were afeared, Their language skills had soared.
Poor Moses in his soggy crib upon the Nile did float; until the daughter of His Nibs. plunged in and grabbed his boat.
His sister Miriam did cry: "What know Your Grace of nursing? Why don't you get this baby dry To save its health from wors'ning?"
Deborah, righteous prophetess, said "Barak, get tooled up. I need your help to sort this mess." and Barak answered, "Yup."
Eve's apple was but "one a day" It seemed the healthy option. The snake said, "Sure!" but God said, "Nay! Behave while I'm away in Stockton."
Said Noah, "Do you think 'twill rain? Those clouds look black and threat'ning. All my hard work won't be in vain, The critters' din is deafening!"
Saul, first King in all Israel, in battle slew his thousands. But 'gainst God's anointed did he yell, and hurled his spear with both hands.
And David said, "You missed me! Ha! I think I'll write some psalms. This ain't a country called La-La." Of that he had no qualms.
Young Absalom, of hair unkempt, Was told, "Beware of trees!" But he did his sad fate preempt whilst swinging in the breeze.
Joseph had a pretty coat, 'twas really psychedelic. Sadly, he often liked to gloat, His brothers had hysterics.
Joel spoke of locust hordes, To him, they were a threat. "It's no good picking up your swords. We'd best consult a vet."
Ne'miah rode round 'Salem's walls, At dead of night he conn'd them. Now here's a wall! If this one falls we'll-have-to-get-in-a-group-of-burly-Polish-bricklayers-who-can-quickly-put-it-up-again.
I know zilch about Habakkuk, I only wish I did. The wicked seemed to have all the luck. Of them can't we be rid?
