Today is Zoo Lovers Day and I think I probably qualify when it comes to the better zoos. I know the ethics of zoos is sort of complicated but places like Chester and Mysore and Darjeeling are just amazing and do a huge amount of very necessary conservation work.
eta: yesterday I missed the fact that it was No Housework Day - BLISS!

Today is Vishu, a huge festival here in Kerala and traditionally we will all eat far too much and then sit there groaning "Why did I eat so much?" but it will be fun.
It may be a theoretically a purely Hindu festival but all communities join in - and the fireworks have been going off most of the night, despite their availability having been curtailed somewhat by the police after the recent tragedy 200 kms south of here.

I am truly uncertain whether we have any Jewish Shipmates, but it should be noted that Passover starts today.
And today is also Earth Day. I believe I shall re-read Pope Francis' encyclical on the environment and inequality (which provided me with my current sig line).

Today and tomorrow, Delaware (and, more specifically, New Castle, Delaware) will be celebrating Separation Day, the day when the 3 counties of Delaware declared themselves separate and independent from Pennsylvania and the Penn family and (by extension) from the British Crown.
The Separation happened in June of 1776, so this is the 240th anniversary of Delaware celebrating the fact that it is not Pennsylvania. A raucous time is expected!

I don't associate Delaware with anything raucous. Do they give all the company registration plates a polish?

I wouldn't worry. Tourists still come claiming descent from the many fictitious characters of the Waverley novels. Almost as many as claim Sherlock Holmes as great-great-great-uncle.
