Be careful with those oils, some of them are poisonous to animals. If your cat is stressed you might do better to invest in Feliway.

I am getting a pet friendly cleaning spray.

Feliway doesn’t do a thing for Spikey, unfortunately.

I returned home to be told that the cats were getting along splendidly. Now they're fussing at each other again. It seems that the problem may be one of determining who gets custody of me, since they tend to fight when someone's on my lap and the other resents it.

I wish there were a way to reason with felines.

Good news. The Royal Canin renal food has gone down well - and indeed stayed down! She's eaten more in the last 24 hours than I've ever seen her eat in a day.

She's been happier and calmer too. So maybe the kidneys were causing pain.

She still woke me at 6am today, but cats don't understand weekends.

I watched a little of the TV series 'My Cat From Hell' this morning on TV. I've seen Jackson Galaxy on YouTube, and yeah, he's a bit 'crunchy granola' but there's a lot of common sense advice in there. Fun to watch.

Glad to hear Spikey's doing a bit better. A kidney upset would sort of make sense of her having weeing trouble.

Hope her recovery continues! [Votive]

Gill, I really like the way Jackson Galaxy has the people fitting around the cats, rather than vice versa. he also did a wonderful rant asking people to consider adopting black cats as it seems that they are most likely to be left at shelters and not adopted, so they end up being killed.

I've had two black cats and I have a third that actually lives down the road, but is doing her best to be adopted my me. She races into the house to eat Georgie's food if I don't shut the doors when I'm hanging the washing out, and the other day I discovered her sleeping on the lazy-cat chair.

That's one reason I adopted my Aida. The only problem I've discovered is that black cats are awfully easy to tread upon in the dark.

In terms of singing, I was actually a mostly Mozartian, with digressions into Britten, Rossini, and whatever else someone wanted to hire me to do. But when it comes to cats, I apply the name that fits - and Aida is a princess, beautiful, and a soprano.

Spikey is definitely an alto (though at 3am she can be Queen of the Night...)

The orange scented cleaner arrived, but did zilch to stop marking. So yesterday we asked the owner or a nearby pet shop, who gave us a special spray. She seemed OK yesterday so here’s hoping.

The renal food is still going down well too.

Georgie is very reluctant to eat the expensive cat biscuits for 11+ cats, but Spooky (my name for the wandering 2 year old black cat) makes them disappear very quickly when she sneaks inside.

She seems to have returned to her usual self, which leaves me wondering if it was just a passing illness. She comes in to eat, then goes out just like she did before. Maybe I was just overreacting, but I though she was really sick.

I hope so Piglet.

I saw a small needlework banner at the Market on Sunday that said. "Cats leave pawprints on your heart" and I wanted to add "and toothmarks on your toes" because mine have been nibbled if I didn't get up instantly when breakfast was demanded.

Yay Spikey! And what a relief Gill.

I have just come back inside from preventing Spooky (small, black female cat from down the road) being beaten up by Storm (large grey cat from across the road). Georgie-Porgy was the audience.

Storm was standing over Spooky and growling, he took one look at me and slunk away. He does the slow motion I'm-not-really-here slink very well and I've seen him slinking up to the water bowl when Georgie was sitting up on the step.

As neither Storm nor Spooky are my cats I could have just left them to slug it out, which they probably will do when I'm not around, but I hate seeing Spooky's bounciness supressed.

Do cats continue to mark in the same place because (despite cleaning) they can still smell their wee? And if it's cat-wee scented it must be OK?

Are there things about that actually break down the cat wee residue chemically so that the scent no longer remains? I seem to recall a friend of mine mentioning something like that after their cat had an accident on the furniture.

Yes and yes.

Simple Solution does the trick, it breaks down the wee with enzymes and removes all smell, even from super sensitive cat noses. I use it for my pups when house training [Smile]

I'm using Method cleaning products (or Methodist as autocorrect tells me) which don't have nasties in. But then also using a special spray from the pet shop to clean areas where she marks.

It's not wee. It smells really sweet - pheromones?

It was raining hard yesterday, but Tobey the Fold insisted on going out. He has a cat bed on the front porch, and we have one of those microwaveable heaters to slide under it, so he is very cozy. I opened the front door and said, "Tobey, do you want to come in?" He met my gaze and then very slowly closed his topaz eyes and fell asleep. I guess the answer is no.

My dog has spent her whole life here in central Arizona. We rarely see rain (though we’re expecting some this week and/or next), and she doesn’t like it. I’ve tried to tell her about snow, but she looks at me as if I must be out of my mind.

Keir likes to eat the snow.

(There’s a saying round here “don’t eat yellow snow” [Razz]

The snow has now been replaced by thick frost, the dogs love hoolying in that too.
