Please pray for our N, who died suddenly this week.

This is a grievous loss to his family and his many devoted friends, but also to our church family and diocese.

He was a lovely man, eccentric, occasionally difficult, kind, unendingly, unhesitatingly generous with his time and gifts, witty and deeply passionate. When he was happy, he just glowed. We miss him so much.

May he rest in peace, and rise in glory. [Votive]

O sweet and blessèd country, shall I ever see thy face?
O sweet and blessèd country, shall I ever win thy grace?
Exult, O dust and ashes, the Lord shall be thy part:
His only, His forever thou shalt be, and thou art.

[Votive] For all in need.

[Votive] For N and family.

[Votive] I learned yesterday that Mary Anne, a dear friend of old, has severe dementia. Her husband lives on one floor of their senior residence; she lives on another. She was so intelligent and witty; this is terrifying even to contemplate. J, her husband, said that she remembers me, and we will talk on Tuesday. Prayers that I find the right words would be appreciated.

Well, the deadline for a decision about seed funding, to actually carry out my research, has been and gone.

I begged my institution to at least tell me a date by which a decision would be made. They said they'd look into it and get back to me.

Supervisor said we should apply to sources B and C if my institution didn't grant the seed funding. I asked him how to go about that. He said he'd find out and get back to me.

Asked guy D at my institution if we could take another approach. He said he'd look into it and get back to me.

Applied to E and F for small change to do two-thirds of the first step of the research. Waiting for them to get back to me.

I am beside myself with anxiety now. Time is of the essence... of course.

Please hold the family of J in your prayers. He died unexpectedly today. Especially pray for his young son who is only seven or eight years old. J's wife was killed in a traffic accident last year, and J's sister died a few months ago. This little boy has lost most of his family in just fifteen months. [Frown]

Praying for the repose of the souls of J, J's wife and J's sister and for comfort for the little boy they leave.

Praying for Telepath. "In this world you will have tribulation, but take heart! I have overcome the world."

So my application for seed funding was turned down.

This is very shocking, because it leaves me with no way to fund my research activities.

Normally, a student would have an allocation of funds for conducting research activities. That was what I expected going in - the institution is brand new, but I naturally assumed it would operate like a, well, research institution.

But, no. There are no funds for conducting research activities, instead the students are to apply for seed funding.

I followed the advice of qualified and responsible people within the institution when applying, and the board has not only turned me down but turned me down in the most scathing terms, precisely for following the advice I was given.

Worse, they say my research is not relevant to their interests WHEN I WAS BROUGHT HERE TO DO THIS SPECIFIC RESEARCH IN THE FIRST PLACE. It's not like I snuck in disguised as some other kind of researcher.

So I have 3 supervisors in my corner and the one I was able to speak to this late on a Friday says it's a problem with the institution, not with me, and that the purpose of supervisors is to get me out of this jam.

I mean I hope he's right. But, I guess the institution can do whatever it wants, so I don't know.

I'm also very conscious of sin and feel that I'm being deservedly punished for sins I'm all too aware of having committed.

sigh

People who follow this will notice that I ever so often post about emergencies at my parents. Today I am going to ask for long-term prayer as we are struggling to find care that they will accept that makes them safe. I do not mean care that wraps them up in cotton wool but just the sort where we do not have to worry about the police being called out in the middle of the night because of what is going on or neighbours reporting them as unsafe to social care.

Thanks

Jengie
