The key is to check that everytime you have opened the [QUOTE&][QB&] tags that there are closing [/QB&][/QUOTE&] tags at the end of it. What causes a mess is when a square bracket or backslash somewhere is missing or someone has forgotten to close the tags.
If you practice it on the practice thread you'll soon get the hang of it and other people will help you.

Okay, I HOPE I get it this time, here goes:
quote: Originally posted by Jahlove: Squeeeeeling check, surely, dolphy?

And a second quotation....
quote: The key is to check that everytime you have opened the [QUOTE&][QB&] tags that there are closing [/QB&][/QUOTE&] tags at the end of it. What causes a mess is when a square bracket or backslash somewhere is missing or someone has forgotten to close the tags.
Continuing on, to quote number three....
quote: If you practice it on the practice thread you'll soon get the hang of it and other people will help you.
Moving on down, quote number four....
quote: If you practice it on the practice thread you'll soon get the hang of it and other people will help you.
And lastly, the fifth part.
quote: Please do not reply to this email. The person sending you the private email did not send this notification. To reply to the private message, you must do so from the message board.
Voila! (I have no idea what my problem was, but Louise has fixed it. Thanks Louise!)

You mention "the bullet is a bug", is that the problem? The UBB code you've used is LIST - LIST always puts in some form of identifier for each item, by default the bullets. You can also have items numbered or alphabetised (start the tags with LIST=1 or LIST=A to do that .... look at the UBB below by using the reply with quotes feature)
- this is a standard list
- with bullets
- just one more item so it's a decent length list
- this is a numbered list
- with numbers rather than bullets
- just one more item so it's a decent length list
- this is an alphabetised list
- with letters rather than bullets
- just one more item so it's a decent length list
- this is another alphabetised list
- with lower case letters rather than bullets
- just one more item so it's a decent length list

Alan Cresswell, the source for that post looked something like this:
[ list] USA (The bullet is a UBB bug) [ *]All Saints' Chapel at Sewanee [ *]The Chapel of St. Mary the Virgin at the University of Georgia <snip> Canada [ *]St. Michael and All Angels, Winnipeg UK [ *]S. Andrew's, Clifton Rd. in Worthing [ *]Ss. Saviour and Mary's Cotham, Bristol UK [ *]All Saints Margaret Street <snip> AUS & Oceania [ *]The Parish of All Trains, Canberra [ *]Far St. Flip's, Brisbane [ *]All Saints Wickham Terrace in Brisbane [ *]Practically every congregation in the Lands of Mama Thomas [ /list]
which produces this: So, the first line after the list tag gets a bullet even if it is not preceded with an asterisk, while several other lines within the list tags (e.g., Canada, UK, and <snip>) that are preceded with an asterisk get no bullet. I stumbled across a way to place unbulleted headings into a list that seems to work everywhere in the list except at its top.
This inconsistency doesn't put a hole in my boat, but I was wondering if I was missing something.
I guess that's just the way things are.

Ah, I see what you mean. What's happening is that for subsequent non-bulleted items the code is being interpreted as "this is part of the same list item, so no bullet is needed, it just happens to be on a new line". Whereas, first time round it's taking it as a new list item (I didn't realise it would do that without the [ *] tag, you learn something new everyday. To do a list like you just did I'd probably break it into several lists with a header outside the list tags. You can always use a few non-breaking spaces (& nbsp; - but without the space) to indent the header if you wished it to look different from the rest of the text of the post.
How about this?
USA- All Saints' Chapel at Sewanee
- The Chapel of St. Mary the Virgin at the University of Georgia
Canada- St. Michael and All Angels, Winnipeg

Ah, you learn something everyday. It's good to be alive, if even in very small ways.
Use several lists, though, that's the ticket.
