Go to the post you want to link to. Above the text of the post there's a line of icons, to the left of that the date and time it was posted, and to the left of that a small icon that loos a bit like a bit of paper with the top right corner folded over. In IE with Windows if you right click on that you'll get a menu including "Copy Shortcut" - this will put the URL into your clipboard.
Go to the thread you want to post on, and start your reply. When you want to include the link, click the URL instant UBB code button and paste the contents of the clipboard into that as per any other URL.

Would one of y'all please run down to Purgatory and see my post in the Churches: aka sexual... thread, not to read, but to look at the format. I never have learned how to do the fancy thing of quoting more than one person and getting it to look good. I have tried to find it on this thread and never have been able to. Can you teach me? Thanks. CuppaT

The UBB software supports nested quotes. As long as the post you're quoting uses the UBB quote function, a reply with quote (using the "" icon) will keep the first quote in place correctly formatted. If you want to cut down the quote, just make sure you leave all the UBB tags in place.
If you want to quote multiple posts, the easiest way is to use a text editor (eg: NotePad or Word) to compose your post. For each post you want to quote click reply with quote and copy the whole window you get into the text editor. Then when you have the quotes you want in a single file, copy it all back to a reply window here.

I think I get it. I read the "What is UBB code?" article anyway. I will keep trying. Some people's posts look very neat. I can but try to imitate.
Thanks, Alan. CuppaT

Remember, you can always use the "reply with quotes" function to see how someone has coded their post. There'll be the "originally posted by" bit at top with a QUOTE and QB tag, and a corresponding set of closing tags at the bottom - remove that and you'll have exactly what they put in and you can see where the code is.

Well, what do you know? That's the thing I've been missing! Thank you very much. CuppaT

The easiest way is to use the Instant UBB code button below the window you type your reply in. The one you want is labelled "URL".
First, find what you want to link to and get a copy of the address (aka URL). Either open the page, select the contents of your address bar and copy it (in Windows, right click the mouse and select 'copy' - there's also a keyboard shortcut, press <ctrl><c>. There'll be something similar for other operating systems). Or, find a link to it (eg: the little icon to link to a post as I described a few days ago on this thread) and copy the address from there (in Windows that'll be right click the mouse and select "Copy shortcut").
Then go to the thread you want to post on and start a reply. Where you want to put in a link select the URL Instant code button. There'll be two pop-up windows. The first will ask for the address, paste the address you have in your clipboard there (right click "Paste", or <ctrl><V>); the window already has a "http:" bit there - make sure you overwrite that, two of them at the front of an address won't work. The second window asks for the text you want displayed, type whatever's appropriate there. And, hey presto, there's a properly formatted link in your post.
