This is a test of the new sig...(and if it's over four lines, I know, I'm going to fix it.)

Help, how do I turn a url in the sig line into words without the "instant UBB code" you can use when composing the message text??
Sorry to be so dense, everyone else seems perfectly able to do it. And I did look at the pointers on UBB code, but still couldn't figure it out.

Let's Go For a Walk!
Mechtilde - try what I'm doing... a two-step process. Use the UBB buttons (whatever you call them, next to the smilies) and figure out what you want to do. Once the test post is up, click as though you're going to quote yourself, select the text for all of the [URL=......], copy, then click "My Profile" and paste that into your sig.
Or, you could start a test post, use the URL buttons, select the [URL=...] stuff, then click on My Profile, all without posting.
ETA - I just tried the first method, and we'll see if it works! [ 24. April 2008, 18:45: Message edited by: Joyeux ]

Thanks Joyeux. I tried what I thought was the first method, without actually posting, but it didn't work. So will try posting and pasting from that.

Above each post there's a serious of icons. The one on the right, which looks like a set of speech marks is "reply with quote". It'll open a reply window that includes a quote of the post you're responding to, complete with the "originally posted by" bit. Simply delete any of the original text you don't want to respond to (leaving the UBB tags in square parentheses).

Query: I'd like to put a link to another website in my sig, but being a complete Dumbo I don't know how. I was hoping that I could just use the "Instant UBB URL" link that is avalable when posting, but that doesn't seem to be an option on the Profile page.
Can anyone cleverer than me tell me how I can do this? Ta muchly!

You can do the link (along with the rest of the text you want in your sig) in a standard post, by replying on this thread for example, and then copy the whole lot onto your clipboard. That can then be pasted into the relevant part of your profile. That gives you access to the Instant UBB buttons.
You don't even need to hit "Add reply" to the post where you put it in, though the use of preview post wouldn't be a bad idea.
