Read in a post in Hell that an edited quote should be coded with a broken line.

Cannot figure out what that code is. Can anyone tell me, please?

morningstar, after you hit "Post Reply" underneath the box where you add text, there are nine little boxes to the right of all the smilies. If you click on "Quote" it gives you the UBB codes, and you can type your quote between them. Or, some Shipmates prefer to memorize the various codes and type them in.

Thanks for that. It was the 'broken line' bit that puzzled me though.

I have come across an annoyed reaction by a shipmate when someone had quoted their post in edited form and wondered if the 'broken line' bit was the only acceptable way of tampering?

Could you perhaps quote the above back to me and show how it's done?

This was the quote that set me wondering

(but that wasn't the one I mentioned about a shipmate being annoyed!)

Not forseeing maliciously butchering another's post, I didn't know how to do this either.

So I went back to the post that was done correctly with broken lines, clicked the quotation marks as if to reply and it revealed the code in that post. A little trial and error gave me the answer.

If you click to reply to my post, you'll see my code. You don't use the regular quote beginning or end with QUOTE in caps. You begin with the broken line, then add the Originally posted by who:
then add qb with the brackets to begin and then /qb with the brackets at the end of the quote you want to modify...and then add the broken line after the bottom of the quote on the next line.

How do you post to a specific thread and post with a link? I see examples here of people trying it out and it working, but no explanation of how to do it. I can do a url link, but how will it get half way down a page to the post I want?

Do you mean a link to a specific post in a thread?

At the top of the post, you will see the date and time the post was made. To the left of that, there is a small icon that looks like a sheet of paper with the top right hand corner folded down. Right-click on that icon and select "Copy link address" then paste that into the URL field.

Hope that helps. If it doesn't make sense, or if it's not what you're trying to do, shout back.
