OK let's try this
quote: this is a quote quote: quoting something bold

words of wisdom
AHA! The bold has to be in a separate set of brackets from the inner quote. That's what was bamboozling me.

the <strike> tag is HTML, and HTML is disabled on the boards. There isn't an equivalent UBB tag for strikethrough.

Oh. I'd seen this site and assumed that some of the UBB was disabled on SoF. Does that mean that the functionality has been coded in as an extra on the GFX site Alan?

I believe there is no liturgy in the world, either in ancient or modern language, which breathes more of a solid, scriptural, rational piety, than the Common Prayer of the Church of England. And though the main of it was compiled considerably more than two hundred years ago, yet is the language of it, not only pure, but strong and elegant in the highest degree.

Not testing, asking a question:
How do people (well, those who do) construct the links to specific messages in threads?
Is there a little icon/link/indicator I'm missing, or do they just work it out the hard way by getting the link to the thread, then adding the reference to the message ID by doing (page-1)x50 + msg# on last page?

To the top left of each message (just to the left of the "Posted" date) is an icon that looks a wee bit like a bit of paper. Right click on that allows you to "Copy Shortcut" (or similar depending on browser and OS). In your post, click the URL instant UBB button and paste the link in when requested.
