Or, when I just want to quote a smidgeon of a long post, sometimes I find it convenient to copy the relevant text, quote the post, select everything between the QUOTE tags, and paste the relevant text I had copied.

That can be easier than clearing away everything but the interesting bit of text.

You just have to be careful to copy only plaintext and not italics or bolded text, which treatment you'll lose, or to include QUOTES, which cock up the quote and annoy the hosts.
