Am I supposed to feel like the Nazgûl caught out by Éowyn? [Roll Eyes]

I was loosely quoting the AV, which has passed into the vernacular. No sexism intended.

Are we to sanitise Shakespeare quotes too? "There is a tide in the affairs of persons, which, when taken at the flood..."

Looking forward to the reincarnation.

Is it possible that the ship names of shipmates who have been promoted to glory could be made unavailable for the new registration?

I'm not sure we could cope with new users of the names of people we dearly love.

Whenever you do actually do migrate, please migrate him avatar and name, pretty please and thank you. He still has hopes that he will be back on-line but the situation is not looking good, IMO.

We hope our new platform is considerably easier to access than that. Also, muggles are welcome.

Please let his Wodderousness know that there is no account migration, per se. It's really just a matter of signing up once it's out of drydock.

Clearly, I am slow. I blame my brain-eating spawn. We'll make sure to have an appropriately Wodderific berth ready-made, and will coordinate to establish access.

Yes, but there are some minor differences. I don't see any maximum number of messages allowed to parlay (or maybe I just haven't found the limitation mentioned).

And, it looks like private messages can be sent to multiple recipients. Which would be handy organising meets, and other similar situations.

It will also be useful if one feels a need to contact a Host with some urgency and doesn't know which one is around and about at the time.

I would be very careful doing that. You could easily end up in the bilges. Or the water. The old ship has a lot of miles on it.

Earlier in this thread was voiced the expectation that we will use the same names when we re-register.

My board name and original registration name differ, as a result of a name-change amnesty. Is it expected that we register using the originally registered name or the current board name, or does it matter?

Also, will there be the ability to change board names on the fly, so to speak?

(Apologies if this has already been addressed and I've missed it.)

It doesn't matter, the current division between username and display name will disappear. Register with whatever name you want to be known by.

The software permits change of name. We'll probably want to limit the ability to constantly change names (much as we currently have), because it just gets too confusing.

I’ve not been here for ages and ages, and logged back in on a whim today. Reading the boards reminds me what a special place The Ship is, so I’ve chipped in too.
Hoping the facelift is a success.

I’ll miss those smilies though, especially this guy [Paranoid] and this one

Apropos of a certain Hell thread, it should be pointed out that the New Ship™ has a
function. This allows sections of a post to be hidden behind a "SPOILER!" warning button, that can be selectively revealed by a reader.

Thought it rather nifty, personally.

One can imagine a fun new Hell thread debating when it is appropriate to use the function. Like those people who insist on saying that Jesus
was crucified, died and then rose on the third day.
