Oh, I thought of another question: Will we be able to e-mail threads to people like we can now? I don't know how many shipmates use that function but I do occasionally.

For some threads, that is basically a distinction without a difference.

Sadly, no, the "email the thread automagically" function is not replicated on the Le Shippe Nouveau. However, it's not like it's that hard to copy/paste the URL into whatever email service you might have.
I'm also not certain if there is a direct email visible between Shipmates. I suppose I should look again with a non-Admin account...

There's a news update on the Shipyard website to say how things have been going with building the new ship:
http://bit.ly/2ByFVfS
We've mainly been working on getting the new design working, and sorting out the blog and the Mystery Worshipper, and we'll be working on integrating the new discussion board software into the design immediately after Christmas. So a lot has been done, but there's still some way to go.
Thanks to everyone who has given to the new Ship fund, and for helping us almost double our original ask of £2,500, which has been an amazing response. When we have further news, including news of our launch date, I'll post again here.

I'm going to confess here there's probably some artistic license in how I presented this in my update. But it has been a fun and interesting challenge processing some of the data from the old Mystery Worshipper reports.
I've gained quite an affinity for the whole Mystery Worshipper process. If you've ever written a report, you have my respect and admiration.

So things are moving on. Good.
But after integrating the boards, will we still be getting the cryptic error messages, such as the one for attempting to vote twice in a poll:
quote: Sorry, but you've already voted in this poll. You cannot vote more than once. This isn't Zimbabwe you know!
or this:
quote: Thank you for being one of the six (okay, maybe seven) registered users who use the preview post function. Now check carefully before you post.

It is only this morning that I have seen anything about this new ship. So far I have read through page 1 ... and see there are 7 pages! Eeeeek! I will read through later.
I have never had any problems loading this forum or posting on it. Other forums have glitches, but never SofF. I hope tech people will note that I use Dolphin SuperNova1 6.06 and can only access anything on the internet using the screen reader. It is excellent soft ware, one of the top ones as far as I know, so I hope I shall be able to carry on as always.
If there is a problem with registration or something, I might have to ask the Tech chap (whom I've known for years now and who comes to the house to fix things in an hour that would take me a week!) to do that and check that avatar is there etc.

I hope you will be able to too, @susandoris.
I'm hopefully building the new site to be as accessible as possible, and I'll educate the captain about keeping the content accessible too.
I tend not to test things with screen-readers when building smaller projects - it's sad but time and budget doesn't always allow. Though I'm aware of the responsibilities of both me and the people I write code for.
And we're using modern, off-the-shelf software to power the new forums. I very much hope that you will be able to use this but its functionality is determined by the people who make it.
Can I ask you to please, please, please let us know if there are any accessibility problems with the new site and forums when they become reality. I really don't want to have anyone left out and I'm more than happy to respond to requests to change or improve things. We will do our utmost to make this work nicely for you.

The new software is actually capable of doing things like previewing and posting without having to open a new page or window. This means that the need for messages like those will no longer exist.
There may still be a few messages knocking around here and there, of course! [ 22. December 2017, 11:17: Message edited by: Marvin the Martian ]

I have listened through all the pages now, except page 5, which for some reason the software doesn'tlike! I'll go back to it later - I don't like to miss anything , you know!

Good ole Shipmate Chelley, who hasn't posted for a few months, has already got some Doc Martens as her avatar. Just sayin'.
Have just read through the 7 pages! So, having paid careful attention, am off to save me old boots from profile so they can make the journey over, and add a bit to the coffers! Pretty exciting stuff, though I am quite attached to my member number and being the old boot but standing ready to chuck ‘em overboard when we make the crossing.

From the “Future history of the Ship” thread in Limbo... (posted around 2003):
quote: Chapelhead*: “March 2017 Start of the Ship of Fools Civil War, also known as the War Between the Boards.”
Thought I’d see if anything came close! (Slight re-interpretation). Of course, the changes won’t degenerate into a board war between new and old as we will all graciously accept change and stagger merrily onto our new ship, grinning inanely at the pink, prancing pony leading the way.

It was from the old thread where shippies predicted the future of the Ship so I had a little read through again to see if anyone had gone as far forward as 2017 - and the quote is from one post! It’s a pretty humorous read (in Limbo) though of course there are a few shipmates mentioned who are no longer with us sadly. (So not from something that actually happened in March!

This may seem like extra effort but is there any chance of a pinned and locked thread in the Styx where only the hosts/admins post what is actually happening with timings as and when they are known? It's great having this thread to give people the chance to ask questions but it feels like the key points can easily get lost amid the chatter. Thanks.
