Nearly finished - just the year 6 science comments and the overall comments to go! I'm going to take a break for a while, and cuddle a parrot. I'm sure Gus would volunteer. [Big Grin]

Athrawes, if it would help, just tell me the names of the studes, and I'll send a comment for each, along the lines of:

James has an impressively innovative approach to these studies, but more care is needed in bunsen burner work.

Freda was disappointingly conservative in her reaction to being chosen as the guinea-pig for the class experiment in rocket propulsion. More team spirit, please, Freda!

I'm in the Big City (okay, not all that big a city!) for the weekend, and made a spirited attempt to attend a shipmate's church, but was defeated by geography and rotten public transport on a Sunday. Ended up at a pleasant suburban church's "contemporary" service (once a month, they tell me) -- they were warm and good-hearted to the stranger in their midst. [Smile] (and, comparing notes with Loth -- no incense, no barbecue. [Big Grin] )

Oh, yes, please! They won't let me put stuff like that, though. [Waterworks] I've had to stop work because of acute diplomacy failure...

I am in agreement but am unable to further comment on this thread as my contribution properly belongs in Hell. I regret also that I won't be starting a Hell thread because of a vague sense that it is unsporting to drag something shared naively (as opposed to shared with intent to offend) in All Saints, to Hell.

Oi! How did you know about the Bunsen burner incident?

I take it you weren't here then if you found the public transport rotten.

BL didn't buy the dog!

Great congregation at chapel today, five patients, twelve volunteers, a priest and me. I thought the sermon went fairly well too.

So to the discerning reader, it could only be ... Adelaide! Had I been in Melbourne, James, I'd've definitely tried to be in the hospital to hear you preach! [Big Grin]

Oh, and I think everyone who was alive at the time and survived it, knows about you and the Bunsen Burner Incident!

After weeks of being anywhere but at work
Of having had a job offer
Of being heaps involved in state & Federal & local politics around homelessness, I am finally returning to work
A new manager awaits.
I hope she can cope with me.

Anyone got any suggestions for how to say, 'your child is incredibly lazy, and winges, complains and argues when you make him do his work' in a diplomatic way?? He's actually quite capable, once you finally get him to do anything, but getting him started is like pulling teeth!

As you can probably tell, I'm up to the overall and behaviour comments [Yipee] Only 15 to go! [Yipee]

My Headmaster was far more blunt way back when, perhaps it was more possible in the early 60s. In my last report before I sat my "O" levels he wrote:

quote:
He has the ability, when is he going to make the effort?
Taking that home to my parents was not easy!

Yes, I got a couple of blunt comments as well. Unfortunately, I am not allowed to be that honest. According to my Deputy, I am not allowed to put, "Mrs. M said I had to put something in this space", either [Big Grin]

Finished the general comments for the year 6s. Now all I have to do for the year 7s is think of tactful ways to say, 'Fredrica comes to school to socialise and meet her boyfriend, which explains her marks for this term...'

The joys of writing report cards! I'm giving up again for tonight, and will tackle those tomorrow, when I've got some fresh ideas.

That one is simple.

My 13 year old boy came home last term with "despite a blossoming social life, Richard seems to be doing well". [Big Grin]

My year 11 history teacher wrote of me "Listens to a different drum".

Any chance of a Perth-meet on the morning of Thursday 9 July, afternoon of Thursday 16 July or morning of Friday 17th?

I'm going to an SCM conference in Gidgegannup then a residential course in New Norcia. I haven't left myself much time in Perth proper [Hot and Hormonal]

I once got: 'young piers is digging himself a big hole and rapidly disappearing into it'. I grew up in a time when teachers weren't expected to be diplomatic, however, and the world was arguably a better place for it. (Can anyone hear me from down here in my hole?)

Just dropping in to say hi from Brains.

Only two more sleeps at the in-laws, then, barring accidents, his wordly possessions will be disgorged from a truck late Friday arvo into the new place. Middle seems to be OK about the whole thing now, which is a relief.

Work is out of control, situation normal.

Providing the Optus techo does the business on Saturday, normal transmission will recommence shortly.

Been somewhat preoccupied for the last couple of days. My special cat, Archpapa Pedro*, has been/is very ill with what seems to be some kind of lower urinary tract infection - dehydrated, lost a quarter of his weight, and looking pretty sorry for himself. He's at the vet's now on a drip and I'm feeling very worried about him. I couldn't sleep last night, just holding him as he slept. I'm more than a little surprised how shattered I am. He's a bit over 9 yo. All prayers gratefully accepted!

[ETA Yes, he is named for our previous Archbishop/Primate, to whom copies of registration and steirlisation certificates were sent! No response was ever forthcoming [Smile] ]

Prayers Rexory [Votive]

One the home front, I’ve almost got my place sorted. I’ve signed contracts, had inspections done and just have to wait for the solicitor to get back to me. It should all be unconditional next week. I must say that this is all very confusing and scary the first time you do it.

Work has been non-relenting as well. I was forced to find some outstanding job sheets with the end of the month just passed. In the process I found this strange thing call a desk beneath the mounds of paper. Unfortunately it is already fast disappearing again

Could someone who knew Geoffrey Bingham more than I did (ie I've never met him at all) write sthg about him for those who don't know of him at all?

He was a very prolific and admired Australian Christian author, who died yesterday at the age of ninety -- his funeral will be next Wednesday at Holy Trinity, Adelaide.

He was a very prolific and admired Australian Christian author, who died yesterday at the age of ninety -- his funeral will be next Wednesday at Holy Trinity, Adelaide.

Geoff Bingham was from 1967-1973 principal of Adelaide Bible Institue at Victor Harbour when I was a student there in 1973. He left at the end of my first term (not my fault!), being replaced by Brian Hardman.

In one term, Geoff opened up so much of the scriptures for me on the subjects of grace and the freedom of the Christian. He helped me, a 21-year-old Penty, to find that I was loved and welcomed by God and given so much by grace, not by my own strivings. I will be eternally grateful for his teaching. He gave me to understand God as a loving, welcoming Father, an image and experience I never had previously.

Geoff was an Anglican priest, a POW at Changi and/or the Thai/Burma railway.

A short bio is here [check]

Can you please give the time of his service @ Trinity. I want to be there.
