One hour, forty-eight minutes of running today. There's an outside chance I'll get out for skate later, but I doubt that'll happen.
108 minutes for today, therefore.

Walk 1: not quite so far or so fast as usual, because some ice on puddles and sun angle and light a bit dificult; a really beautiful day though. Walk 2: with a friend along by the sea at Mudeford.

A ginormous (for me, anyway) 4h30m on a huge walk (with mid-walk forest assault course, terrific fun). Never had a picnic in January before!

Spent some hours today messing about in boats - didn't actually sail but helped others to sail. Not all of this time was strenuous but there was an element of pushing, shifting, hauling and hoisting, so I think I can claim 30 minutes. Plus run to gym / gym / run (sort of) back, 1 hour. So 1 h 30 m today and running total 51 h 50 m.

Only 15 minutes walking yesterday, I'm afraid. However, I made up for it with 2 hours, 10 minutes cross-country skiing today which, due to 2-year hiatus from that particular activity, reduced my legs to achy strands of spaghetti. Ibuprofen is my bestest friend ever.

Exercise didn't really happen for me yesterday, what with one thing and another. Just a bit of walking which I probably shouldn't count anyway.
Meg: Have you had a cold bath? Sit in cold water (or ice water, if you're really brave) up to your waist for 10-15 minutes, and when you get out, and have warmed up, your legs will feel surprisingly good. Trust me! ![[Smile]](smile.gif)

Yesterday, I awoke to unexpected snow and ice, so I cancelled the road ride I had planned. However, I had some errands to do, which I'd normally have done quite quickly by bike, but which when walking in the snow took rather longer. I walked for about 1 hour and 10 minutes. Later in the day, I also walked into town to go to the cinema, which took 40 minutes.
Today, I headed out into the melting snow and ice for a ride on my mountain bike. We did about 50 km, which for off road riding at this time of year is a long way. This took 3 hours and 35 minutes. It was great fun, but in places very muddy and heavy-going. My legs are now like Meg the Red's - spaghetti, or possibly jelly. However, having spent over three hours outside in temperatures which are hovering around freezing, I don't think I can face the ice-bath approach!
Running total: 40 hours and 58 minutes.
That's probably it for me, unless my legs stage an unexpected recovery in the next couple of hours!
Rachel.

So far today, 3 hours walking to team church for this morning's service. It takes an hour to walk there and two hours for the scenic route back. It is a bit quicker to cycle, but we too had ice and the tail end of snow, and having seen the roads I'm very glad I opted to walk.

I'll let CK add up, as I've taken both socks and my trousers off, and still I haven't got enough appendages to keep count on.
4 days worth of cycle commute @ 15 mins each way - 2hrs plus extras as follows:
Wednesday - popped into town for a loaf of bread - 5 each way so 10 mins
Thurs - 15 mins getting to ringing and back, and 20 mins ringing.
Friday - 10 mins walking to Careers Service and back, and 25 mins ringing at another tower. Would have cycled there in summer, but...
Saturday... this gets complex! 20 mins ride into town. 15 mins ride from town, via work, to cricket nets where I got in 2 hrs practice. I'll digress a mo to say that I actually bowled well enough to enjoy it, which is unheard of, and despite - or perhaps because of - getting clouted by the ball twice, I had a constructive and useful batting session in which I belted the leather off the thing in a most satisfactory fashion. I then creaked and wobbled back to work in 30 mins via a long and circuitous (and hilly)route, and finally having dumped my kitbag took 25 mins to get home. Rest of day spent collapsed and knackered, generating a bath ring for Celtic Knotweed to scrub today.
Sunday - much easier: 15mins to church and back, and 10 mins ringing. Went for a long walk - 1hr 45mins. Two trips to allotment and a little light gardening 30 mins all told. And finally 10 mins round trip feeding the ducks and back. Some housework was involved, but I didn't think to time it and the Knotweed threw herself into it with such gusto I'd feel embarrassed to claim my paltry efforts.
Thank heavens that's over - I'm knackered!

40 minutes walking, preceded by 30 minutes skating on a snow-covered rink, which does tend to increase the degree of difficulty, especially when one unexpectedly encounters twigs hidden by said snow. (Ouch.)
Dave, I do believe your cold-bath method would work nicely to reduce inflammation. That being said, ARE YOU NUTS???? I lolled in a lovely hot juniper and lemon epsom-salt bath with the result that today I am tottering around like an arthritic 70-year-old, as opposed to the arthritic 90 year-old I was channeling yesterday.
Thanks so much, CK, for all your work. ![[Overused]](graemlins/notworthy.gif)

To be fair, that does sound very pleasant.
Anyway, for me it was 1 hour, 24 minutes of running, and 30 minutes of walking today, so I'll have 114 minutes on my total, please. ![[Smile]](smile.gif)

It all gets a bit reduced for me I'm afraid. Was off delivering a training course and couldn't do a big hike over the weekend as I was, er, doing my tax return (nothing like leaving it to the last minute!!)
Thurs 28th: 30 mins walk to/from tubes Fri 29th: 20 mins walk from tube Sat 30th: 15 mins cumulative walking (small bursts) Sun 31st: I did about three hours of relatively energetic diy - sanding and staining boards, very good for my sadly underworked arm muscles, but I think I should probably only count 1.5 hours of it. Plus 20 mins walking and 30 mins energetic housework (including washing windows!)
(CK - as I was four hours out from your count at one point quite early on, do you think you might be able to check that you didn't add the 4 hour walk we did together twice?)

Does extreme anxiety count for anything? Older daughter in an accident Friday night and in hospital. She will be OK but it scared family and friends. 30 Minutes yesterday for a total of 23.15 by my reckoning. Thank you for this game, it has encouraged me to exercise and I feel better for that.

And the last few bits for me:
Friday 29th, about 30 minutes ringing at t'other tower.
Saturday 30th:- 20 minutes getting into town
- 10 minutes from town to other shops
- 10 minutes getting home
- some housework, of which 10 minutes was worth counting
Total for the day of 50 minutes.
Sunday 31st:- 15 minutes round trip to church
- 15 minutes ringing
- a slightly shorter walk than Sandemaniac's (I turned back earlier), of 50 minutes
- a large chunk of housework, of which I reckon 30 minutes was aerobic enough to count
- 10 minutes round trip to feed the ducks/geese/swans
Total for the day of 2 hours.
Total for this post of 3 hours 20 minutes. Final total (I think!) 35 hours 32 minutes.

Well under the Rules of the Race you absolutely can count the walk to work. Many of us do. However if your own personal rule is not counting them...
I'm a bit erratic on such things myself - if I've done lots of other exercise that day I don't count the odd 10 minutes to the shops. Or 5-10 mins from the tube or bus stop to my final destination. But if I haven't then, hey, every little counts.

Ah, what I meant was whether I was allowed to count it because it hadn't happened yet, and it hadn't occurred to me that we would still be allowed to post today, so I could've posted it today for yesterday if you see what I mean. But I did do it, and would like it to count.

Pipped at the post by blackbeard. Damn my disorganisation with my tax return so I lost out on hiking over the last weekend. (And my honesty in getting CK to recount!)
Still I'm really, really pleased. I had in mind to see if I could average 2hrs a day, which I didn't quite manage but it meant I did do loads more than before and I'm feeling much better for it.
Great fun and many thanks to CK for keeping record.

Thanks CK! I really enjoyed it.
I appear to be pretty consistent - at least compared to last year, which is suprising since last year I was feeling pretty fit and well and was dancing and doing circuits as well as cycling and walking, whereas this year I'm recovering from a broken arm, and have thus had more of a limited range of exercise options and also did all of my exercising outside, despite the foul weather.
Thanks again.
R.

Thanks for hosting this, CK. Perhaps someone would like to volunteer to host the June fitness race, nearer the time.
Until then, keep up the good work. Chorister, Host
