No, no, no, you must never take it personally. I like the cafe because more often than not people you think are absolute assholes on board turn out to be quite normal and good folk...of course the reverse can be true too. But mostly it's fluff; fluff about life, fluff about tv, fluff about music and the eurovision all interspersed with a certain wit. Of course these things can get heated too and now and again people do a mass exodus because they find the topic boring, too heated or whatever and it's possible to come in just at the wrong time.

It's a little like when you're working late and you know everyone else is at the pub having a laugh, but when you get there they are all heading home because the one in the corner has being going on all night about how Angela Merkel isn't the anti-Christ and is just a very naughty woman to the point where everyone has lost the will to live - and there you are bounding in with pint in hand with the joys of spring only to have your hoped for event turn to a pile of festering shit right in front of your face. It's annoying, a tad disappointing, but it's not personal.

It would seem that all of the previous posts only posted once. It's just that Hell was broken, so they didn't display, leading certain posters (myself included [Hot and Hormonal] ) to keep mashing the "Add reply" button in the hope that this time it'll work, dammit...

At some point in the future you may become ‘in’, although exactly why will never be made explicit, and may abruptly be followed by one no longer being in, just as inexplicably – so suddenly those who are ‘in’ will be in when you are in… and will abruptly cease to be when you no longer are.

Is that clear?

I tried to post last night to say I had been in the cafe for the first time since for-ever - maybe even the poster Curiosity Killed referred to? I didn't even know it had changed format so much!

I had a couple of nice chats. I was tempted in by Alex Cockell's invite to live-chat about the Eurovision song contest. Though we didn't talk about that after all.

I did wonder if the regulars were wondering 'what's she doing here? Never bothered her arse before?' [Razz]

But it is difficult if there are only a few in the cafe. It's inevitable that regulars have things in common to post about - but I felt pretty welcomed. And as others point out, timing is crucial. People who need to log off shouldn't feel guilty about that just because someone else enters the cafe.

(After seeing Fletcher's performance on this thread, I'm delighted that all my various attempts to post didn't get through!!)

No, Anselmina, I wasn't thinking of you. It was someone who hasn't been around for a long time - last in the café over a year ago, and I can't remember the last time she posted. She really didn't deserve to be called to Hell for continuing to leave when she'd already made her adieus.

I tried going to the Cafe, once, years ago. I was terrified by the frantic pace and the clacking noise. Maybe Enigma and I should start a new, less exciting Cafe where no one needs to be wide awake and inanity rules.

Most of my time on the boards is spent with a few minutes here and there to read contributions on threads I'm following. Anything I post longer than three sentences is probably going to be done on my lunch hour.

The cafe doesn't fit that kind of schedule, so I've really only been there for Erin's memorial.

Ahem - may I remind you that the person I called to Hell was myself?? I was just unlucky I guess - I got excited when there were 4 people there - then there were none. [Frown] If the goodbyes had been staggered by even a few minutes I might not have felt as I did. And isn't that what Hell is for? To have a rant?
