There is a Hindu Temple which is usually referred to, because of the road it is in, as St James' Temple.

I am part of a new parish forming in my diocese, and we submitted three names to the Bishop, who picked one for us.
There's also a story that a church in the diocese wanted to be called "Hope" or something like that, but the bishop informed them that they would be "St Alban's"!

I've heard of "Mary, Queen of Heaven". Is "Queen of the world" a demotion?
No.
But as Satan is 'the Prince of this world', then has she changed sides?

Several suburban churches in this city (founded between the 1930s and the end of last century) were given the names (and occasionally artefacts like fonts) from defunct inner-city churches.

I had a sachet of coffee put through my letter box as a gift for the extra hour moving back to GMT. It was from something called The Severn Vineyard Church. Never heard from it before. Apparently it's part of a chain which has something to do the the Toronto Blessing. At least the coffee was Fairtrade.
There is some Nigerian church called The Redeemed Christian People of God.
A former brethren 'Bethesda' has rebranded itself 'AlmaChurch' - names after the road in which it is set.

I have long wanted to name churches using the pseudonyms I have given Ottawa churches in my posts: S Vartan's, Pantocrator's, S Onoforio's, Our Lady Protector of All Who Paraphrase, S Hamlet's, S Tigger's, and Holy Circumcision.

Castle Hill United Reformed Church in Ipswich has recently renamed itself "Castle Hill Church".
Which is quite clever.

But I think Garrison Keiller's "Our Lady of Perpetual Responsibility" is the best fictional church name. Although Andrew Greeley has invented some good ones, too.

Excuse the above [Removed ... Host], so long since I've posted; but it reminds me of "The Little Sisters of Perpetual Indulgence". I think they were gay rights folks who would go about in pre-conciliar nuns habits. [ 28. October 2012, 21:48: Message edited by: Zappa ]

Notre Dame des Neiges is quite a popular church nomination in La Belle Province. Ladies of a certain age are sometime named Marie DesNeiges.
The oddest place I have ever come across Our Lady of the Snows is in India. Must have been consecrated on her Feast Day. But it certainly gave me a giggle.

Don't you have a Trades Descriptions Act in Australia?

Here in Godzone, I enjoy collecting "modern" church names and figuring out what they must suggest to your average pagan. For example "The Link" - maybe a fencing supplier? Then there's "Lifeswitch" - perhaps an electrical business? "City Impact" - possibly an urban panel beaters. "Equippers" is another favourite - maybe a hardware store? And then there's "Arise". Let your imagination go where it will......

A bit like holding up a sign at a sporting event saying JOHN 3:16. It speaks volumes about the inward focus of the perpetrator and does nothing to further the great commission.

According to this morning's Anglicans Online new links page, Saint Saviour's, South Sydney, is now One in Seven-- my initial thought, to be formally repented of sometime next week, was that it sounded like the title of a report on Sexually Transmitted Diseases Among the Young.
