I was at an Advent service yesterday. We sang Lo he comes with clouds descending. The hairs on the back my neck stood up. And the final crescendo "Everlasting God come down" choked me.

What hymn/ hymn-line does it for you?

"And can it be..."

Not quite Advent but all the same.

I like most of the Advent hymns: Lo, He Comes with Clouds Descending; Hills of the North Rejoice!; O Come O Come Emmanuel and On Jordan's Bank the Baptist's Cry.

However, the most uplifting hymns for me, are any written by Charles Wesley, especially "O Thou who Camest from Above" - a truly beautiful and very uplifting hymn IMHO.

And in the stars the glory of his eyes,
His body gleams amid eternal snows,
His tears fall from the skies.”
