Not sure where to park this one, so I decided to come to heaven ...
I am planning to have an after-church luncheon on January 6, Epiphany. We'll have king cake for dessert, but I am looking for suggestions for the main meal. Is there a particular tradition?
Since the time of revelry in rich foods over Christmas will be just past, I am thinking of encouraging simple and ordinary. Suggestions?

Soup, salad, and crusty bread are tasty and easy to fix. Winter is a good time for thick warm soups like split pea, corn chowder, and not so easy but good in Dixie- chicken and sausage gumbo.

It says here that the liturgical colours around Epiphany are white and gold or yellow, followed by green. I can see that translating into food - a salad of halved eggs on a bed of mixed leaves, or celery with a mayo dip, or just bread and cheese with grapes. Speaking for myself, by that time in winter, I am really craving fresh, light tastes.

Decided to do "beans and greens" with dried beans cooked thick, turnip greens, corn bread, and cole slaw. After all, this is the South. King cake for dessert, of course.
